Trump Frets About Economic Forecasts And How They’ll Affect His Reelection Bid | Talking Points Memo

While vacationing at his golf club in New Jersey, President Donald Trump has been fretting about some gloomy economic forecasts — and the effect they’ll have on his reelection chances.

Administration officials have reportedly not prepared for a recession, worrying that details of any plan would leak and create a negative narrative

I posit that administration officials have also never prepared for a Trump presidency.

I worry about how a recession will affect the US and it’s people. So do most Americans that aren’t raging narcissistic assholes.

Don’t worry, the Dems, as usual, will come in to deal with the disaster of your making, get things back on track to have yet another Rethug in office, rinse and repeat.

That worry did appear to be present in his meandering NH speech. I wanted to see a transcript of it to see how much racist red meat was in it as compared to his ‘send them back’ speech. Even Maggie Haberman was trashing Trump for repeating things in the 2nd hour that he had said in the first and noted that he appeared to have not recalled what he said in the 1st hour (hmmmmmm…in the MSM setting the stage to address Trump’s diminished mental capacity just as the Mooch is going public?).

An economy that is teetering for most observers, and tanking for specific sectors, post-term criminal liability exposure, the prospect of impeachment, and mass exposure of a system of fraud, corruption and lies. Most normal people would resign in that setting. Trump only needs a bit of push to the same imho.

See Josh’s comments on the latest Fox poll. If the economy tanks, it will be a blowout. I hate to wish widespread economic harm but if that is what it takes to take Trump and the Republicans down, bring it on. The long-term impact will be beneficial at all levels.

Don the Con shouldn’t worry about the economy because he’s got so much else to run on:

  1. His great health care plan that will cover everybody and cost so much less than Obamacare.
  2. He’s had several Infrastructure Weeks
  3. He got North Korea to stop missile development
  4. He won the trade war with China (he said it would be easy and the Chinese will enjoy Brazilian soybeans)
  5. He has run a squeaky clean Administration with no one leaving in scandal or disgrace
  6. He’s healed the divisions in the country
  7. Osama bin Laden is still dead and GM is alive (barely)

They gave a tax cut in a strong economy
They reduced Fed interest rates in a strong economy - Nowhere to cut now
They passed a deficit ballooning budget
They allowed an unnecessary tariff war to start

And they’re surprised that the Laffer Fairy didn’t come by and fix everything

I can’t wish for that.

Though I wouldn’t mind so much if it was cosmically targeted only towards MAGA hat wearing assholes…

A promise of a full pardon from Pence for himself and his family might look attractive to him about now, IF GOP can sell it as a “win” Who knew governing was so hard???

That’s 1 poll and I do find that Josh has tended to fixate on a single poll with bigger PR push than say the 538 poll vault.

All that said, the polls have consistently showed Trump underperforming his approval rating in h2h matchups and the only reason I think that’s relevant is that the GOP underperformed Trump’s approval per exit polls in many races in 2018.

Hear ya. A lot of innocent people would suffer. It helps to be empathetic when you’re one of them–other people’s marketing budgets put food on my table and in a recession the purses stay closed. But a second term would be worse, and for longer. We can survive a recession. That other thing, maybe not.

Trump is already pivoting to what he does best: instilling fear. Last night in Manchester, N.H. he told the crowd how their 401(k)s will be down the tubes if a Democrat is elected next year. Look for him also to say that Democrats are trying to crash the economy.

I don’t want to have a recession because that would suck for everyone. But if you are wondering why we’re in the state we’re in, look no futher than the first phrase in the first sentences of this article*: “While vacationing at his golf club in New Jersey”*. Sure Nero is worrying about Rome burning, but apparently not worrying enough to stop his fiddling.

It’s almost as if…and I know this is wild, but bear with me…it’s almost as if economists who warned against the self-centered actions he took actually knew what they were talking about.
