President Donald Trump finally commented on the death of John Lewis, hours after an announcement about the the passing of the lionized civil rights hero, who was among the President’s prominent critics.

Shouldn’t this be “WH staff panics over optics of Trump ignoring John Lewis and rushes out a tweet to try to cover for Trump’s racism”? Seems far more likely that some WH staffer popped out a tweet to cover for Trump not bothering to do the very basic things that presidents do when someone dies.
Ignoring Lewis’s death is just one more dog whistle for the white supremacists that follow Trump, the disrespect is the point.
