Best thing about this - it’s a republican filing the lawsuit.

Worst thing about this - tfg is their weakest candidate in '24 and I’d prefer to see him carrying the repub banner.

ETA - I don’t think the lawsuit is going anywhere,

I guess it has anti-astronomical standards to uphold.

Donnie’s hair has always been the subject of jokes, fittingly, but this pic makes his hair look even shittier. I am convinced that the only thing Donnie fears is an Aqua Net embargo.

Assigned to Judge Cannon. Somehow there is a snowball and hell metaphor that I think is appropriate.

Good! Let’s hope she throws out the lawsuit. Let Donnie finish his work of destroying the repugnants.

A) Texas politician filed in Florida, where the federal courts are only marginally less shitty than in Texas.
B) He’s representing himself.
C) Guess which Florida Judge™ he drew. You know the name.

This is going to be a trainwreck of flatcars loaded with flaming dumpsters.

The Disqualification Clause mostly sat dormant since 1869 until last fall

It has not “sat dormant”, it was used in 2022 in two attempts to disqualify incumbent critters from the ballot, madcaw and empty greene. Both cases went nowhere, but they were litigated.

There’s a small chance she’ll try to regain some stature by having the case moved to the DC courts. Or dismiss it for plaintiff’s lack of standing.

For those TPM lawyers out there - -
What are the criteria for where someone can and cannot file a Federal law suit?
Is this guy serious about this, or is it more Rebub performance art? Is he looking for a ruling that says the MFWSNBN is not disqualified, to take this argument off the table?

Let him destroy the Republicans from the outside. If he is prevented from running, he will do his best to tear down the party.

I can just see Donnie and MarshaFuckingBlackburn in a catfight over the last available can of AquaNet.

Trump has easily moved on from Aqua Net by now

"Known as the “Disqualification Clause,” the section prohibits anyone who engaged in “insurrection or rebellion” against the United States from holding “any office, civil or military, under the United States.” Castro is arguing that Trump’s involvement in the January 6th insurrection should disqualify him from holding public office again."
… … … … …
Works for me.
But
THIS does not…

“Ironically, his case was assigned to be tried before the U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, a Trump nominee who presided over the former president’s attempts to shut down the Justice Department investigation into classified documents that he took to his Mar-a-Lago estate. Castro told Bloomberg that he’s looking to disqualify Cannon from handling the case.”
… … … … … …
One other thing… The judiciary and the rest of our government both state and federal do not understand IRONY.
I once had an interaction with TSA over my metal knee replacement… I wrote a formal snail mail letter to the head of the TSA asking for an apology for my treatment by the idiots in Denver who worked for TSA. This was in 2012. At that time TSA was headed by John Pistole. His family name translated from the Italian by the google machine comes up as “Gun”. Now, that is real honest to God irony. I never did get any response to my letter.

I don’t think Trump will be disqualified under the 14th amendment, even though his role instigating the Jan 6th insurrection is clear. I’m also not upset with that, because if successful, Republicans will use it to try to disqualify Democrats every time violence breaks out anywhere.

However, we do need a definitive decision by the SCOTUS to ensure that.

So MAGA?

There’s the kiss of death.

Well, last fall was 2022…

I was excited about this development until I saw this:

his case was assigned to be tried before the U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon

Before she’s done with this case, she’ll try to get the complainant arrested.

Although…who knows…the appeals court threw her out on her keister once. Perhaps they’ll do it again.

The attempts to remove madcaw and MTG from the ballots occurred during their primaries, which were spring/summer.
