President Donald Trump suggested on Tuesday that he won’t be holding rallies since the optics of low attendance amid calls to observe social distancing guidelines — that he has largely ignored in the past — wouldn’t look very good.
Keep him explaining. It’s something he has no capacity to do. It requires a kind of mind that can grasp things like visual reality and objective truth, and Trump does not have one, so he just digs himself deeper into his hole with babble.
Not to mention that everybody feels the sensation on their skin: when you’re explaining you’re losing.
He is doing his best to keep up his fantasy. If he has another campaign event with low turnout, it will only rub his nose deeper into the reality of the coming historic defeat. He will delay that realization as long as he is able to do so. He might even go full cray-cray in November and claim that he didn’t lose and that the election was unfair and it was stolen from him. He’s put all his energy into that instead of actually working on the pandemic. He is the worst executive I have ever seen during a very long professional career, bar none. Makes Dubya almost look competent.
This clinches it. Nomination acceptance speech delivered from white house lawn, white house staff filling the seats, on pain of termination. Can Hatch Act violations be pardoned?
