If Pence wanted a snowball’;s chance at being elected President himself, he should trick Rump into resigning. Then, he should not only renege on the pardon, but also rescind every claim of privilege and immediately order full compliance with every subpoena of Congress and New York.

I think yes to some or all of what you lay out. For him it depends on whatever sticks and where the maximum grift is to be had. I know one thing with this guy, there is no “plan”.

I hope that world public opinion gets out in front of him on this and firmly establishes that …
“Resigning at the 11th hour… to get your sycophant successor to pardon you”
… is the universal sign of Treason and Cowardice … and open confession to all of the crimes that he has committed… and effectively for his future - being like gaging down a fist full of political cyanide capsules…
Trump should be politically held in the wasteland occupied by Dennis Hastert, John Edwards, Elliot Spitzer, Larry Craig, Rod Baglovic, Nixon, Agnew, etc.

Between the now-clearly-unchangeable election results and the promise of several effective vaccines on the way, the ends of our twin national nightmares are in sight. Still some rough spots to get over, but…
Of course, I’m sure Trump will follow precedent, and not say too much about his successor’s performance in office, thereby giving him the space to craft his own Presidency. Yes, I’m sure that’s going to happen. Then again, I’m slow.
The real question is just how many people will continue to listen to his nonsense. The hard-core MAGAts, to be sure, but beyond that, he might just fade into obscurity. He’ll be spending all his time hiring attorneys to handle the legal messes coming his way, and golfing. A run in 2024? I’d bet against it - either dementia or ill health will make that a practical impossibility.

And, I’ve read that the West Wing is pretty cleared out. He doesn’t have all his people around to keep this going. Looks like he’s a party of one and you’re right he doesn’t want the job. It’s just he won’t know what to do with himself to scam money, because that’s what it’s all about.

That makes Pence less unpalatable to Democrats, but still not palatable.
And it makes him essentially unelectable in a Republican primary, which he’ll have to get through before needing to even think about Democratic voters.
If you’ve lost your base, and merely made yourself less odious to the opposition, you don’t really have a winning strategy.

I don’t really care that he is refusing to concede. Concession is a voluntary and gentlemanly act that is the proper thing to do but it is still unnecessary. He lost bigly and no temper tantrum is going to change anything.

Pence has never been in line to inherit Trump’s base. Wrong personality entirely. Pence appeals to the evangelical crazies, but I’m sure he leaves the gun-toting white nationalists flat. No flagrant bullying, which is what they like.

Also Trump lucked out on this company calling itself Dominion because if you say it enough it’s sounds so ominous. And the more sinister it sounds the more the conspiracy fever swamp eats it up and that it has to be real. Maybe if this sinister company name was The Moonbeam-Sunshine Kitty Corporation it would be a harder sell to the Parler Squad.
