My initial reaction, as well. If Trump is chief executive, but not part of the “Executive Branch”, then what is his status in the government? The terms “King” and “Dictator for Life” are the initial ones that come to mind.
If ever there were an argument for Trump being a lawless President, this is it – and in spades.

Just a point of inquiry, if the Mazars, as the 3rd party accounting firm for T rumpp, were made aware of any criminal activity that could be hidden or buried in his finances and tax forms, would they not be legally obligated to disclose that evidence to the proper authorities? Or, can we just assume then that they are also in on T rumpp’s illegal money laundering and grift by covering it all up for him?

Trump is a crook. America has seen enough renditions of crooks and mobsters. Although there is a perverse urge to glorify criminals, that is not universal.
Especially this one. Only about 30% or less are in his corner. It seems that is more than it is because of sleepyheads, non-responders, devil’s advocates wanting to shake things up, a tendency for old haters to over-respond, etc.
