NEW YORK—I last saw attorney Emil Bove one month ago, when he was representing his client, then-President-elect Donald Trump, at his New York state court sentencing in early January. On Wednesday, Bove was down the street at the federal courthouse, and had a new, bigger title. He’s the acting Deputy Attorney General. And after watching…
“No appellate court in this country has ever upheld a district court’s denial of a motion to dismiss,” Spiro said.
“The fact that no court in this country has ever heard a motion as brazenly and shockingly crooked as this one is yet another reason why you are not allowed to deny our motion.”
These fuckers get away with brazen bad-faith distortions of reality, over and over, because they know our national media will never, ever call them on it.
U.S. District Judge Dale Ho should throw a wrench to all this.
Bove’s face has manifested all the evil and hate within him.
I do hope Judge Ho finds enough evidence to at least bring in an amicus. This is another ridiculous example of Fat Hitler’s propensity to screw with the justice system.
That Adams supposedly could not communicate with the DOJ, Bove said at one point, “impacts national security objectives that are a core Article II power of President Trump.”
Unbelievable rationale. If the President can NatSec his way into anything, there’s no other legal power base in the nation. It’s martial law, and nowt else.
Would have liked to have seen the judge ask Bove if the Trump administration makes prosecutorial decisions based on criminal activity or politics.
Simple solution is for Adams to resign and stand trial. Fuck him, Emissions Bovine, Turd Blanche, and the Felon.
I hope the judge dismisses it (I forget which one it is), so DOJ can’t refile it. And then Alvin Bragg prosecutes him.
Bove . . . invoked the Biden administration’s motion to dismiss charges against Russian arms smuggler Viktor Bout as part of a prisoner exchange.
If that’s the analogy Bove is going with, then what did the Trump administration get in exchange for dropping the charges against Adams?
I wonder if Judge Ho can dismiss the case with prejudice?
That would be a great middle finger to that ugly fucking Bove.
- Does it concern anyone that Adams’s lawyer also represents President Musk in a number of big-ticket matters?
- Does anyone doubt that it’s finally time for the Governor to step in and wipe away those mayoral obligations that pursuing the indictment would complicate?
King Solomon their asses, Judge.
Either prosecute him or drop the charges with prejudice only.
Make them cut that baby in half.
As the judge in the case, I assume he can, but IANAL. And I wonder if that may be why he might appoint an amicus so he can make that decision.
I wonder if an amicus could present information like this for the judge:
Chad Mizelle's Appearance of Impropriety - emptywheel
“With prejudice.” As I understand it, no matter what Judge Ho decides, Bragg can decide to investigate and prosecute a case against Adams. That would be down the road aways. If, as the DOJ has requested, if Ho dismisses the case without prejudice, Adams would remain Trump’s puppet and do his bidding re immigration in NYC. Gov. Hochul needs to step in.
I don’t know if Judge Ho will want to go down this road, but it appears that Bove lied to the court—if Sassoon and her other line prosecutors are to be believed. Whatever else Ho may think about the merits of the motion to dismiss, he should care about a senior official in the DOJ lying on the record in a federal court.
I agree with you completely, except Adams would do all Trump’s bidding.
This whole thing is as corrupt and sleazy as Hell. DoJ’s rationale is phony as it gets. What if Adams murdered his Administrative Asst. ? Would the DoJ prosecute that case or would Adams’s remaining tenure still argue for leaving him in office to do Trump’s bidding ? Only a totally mobbed up prick like Bove or Blanche would make such an argument.
Judge Ho has very limited discretion and even if he brought amicus in to prosecute the case, Trump could still pardon the Adams after conviction.
Judge Ho should order dismissal with prejudice to get the Feds completely out it. That would clear the way for Manhattan DA Bragg to hire Sassoon’s prosecutors and re-indict Adams under NY law.
In the meantime, Gov. Hochul needs to remove Adams from office for cause and appoint Williams as Mayor. Williams can then tell ICE Director Homan and Trump’s DHS and DoJ to bug out.
I don’t keep up with Eric Adams that much, but I do know that the lunatic right (ie the Republican Party) has adored him pretty much since he set foot in office–which means I’ve always viewed the guy with a great deal of suspicion. Does anyone know exactly how this corrupt gentleman became so popular within America’s Craziest Political Party?
Trump’s “magic” is his ability to surround himself with “loyal” people. He detects vulnerabilities, a standard testing method used by bullies, and once the vulnerabilities are identified he brings them into his sphere gives them no choice. To the outsider these people are all 100% Trump believers. This approach to life is not unlike that of Putin, who also has very few actual friends. Those that stray or question are banished and even defenestrated. Over the past couple days in Europe, there has been horror and panic about the apparent US policy decision to go full-Kremlin on Ukraine, but then some calming as Putin and Trump are constantly fucking up and making mistakes. Trump and his acolytes routinely fail to read the room, which initially seems “bold” or “disruptor”, but turns out to be incompetence or poor intelligence. Trump and Putin have done and will surely continue to do damage to their respective countries and world order. One problem is that as time goes on hiding the mistakes becomes part of daily business. Ken Hughes, a researcher, points out that Nixon’s cover-up of the Watergate break-in actually brought some respite. But in the end, it’s not the crime, it’s the cover-up, resulted in his resignation.
In Russia, the country’s economic future has been sacrificed to keeping the illusion of a Great Russia going. War consumes spending and distorts the allocation of labor and capital in very perverse ways. Does the US really want to go down a similar path? Trump right now senses that Putin is at his weakest in his 25 years in power, while Trump’s approval is still in the mid-40s, which is strong for him historically. Better hurry, though, plenty of mistakes to make, and digital fog only gets you so far.
