I have been saying since the 1st Trump term, when I used to comment on Washington Monthly, that the ‘through line’ to Donald Trump has always been “Russia, Russia, Russia”. Given his recent personal history, you would think the last thing Mr. Trump would want to do is become closely aligned with either Russia or Vladimir Putin, but he simply cannot resist doing so: being drawn to Moscow like a ‘moth to a flame’. Given that the U.S. is much stronger than Russia militarily, and dwarfs it in economic and soft power terms, Mr. Trump’s uncontrollable desire to move closer to one of our traditional adversaries is simply mystifying. In terms of history’s closest kept secrets, I don’t really care who killed JFK, but I really want to know the true source of Russia’s hold on Mr. Trump.

The U.S. Mint has removed from its website gold commemorative medals honoring the police officers who defended the Capitol on Jan. 6, bronze duplicates of which were previously available for purchase by the public.
Breaks my heart. I have the bronze duplicate of the Congressional Gold Medal awarded the First Special Service Force (my father’s WWII unit). As of midnight, my country

) is under economic assault from Trump tariffs, and this is what made me cry.
