It was abstract before. This regime has made it all very concrete, and when the economic impacts of the beautiful tariffs hit home, it might not be too much to expect a different outcome in 2026
The plaintive, whiny little mewling they do (sounds like a cat’s meeow…a little bit and thus the name) always makes me smile. We have neighbor kids on the other side of the hedge, and I can always hear the two older kids (4-5 yrs old) planning something and the little 2 yr old following them around whining. That is what the grey catbird sounds like to me. A whiny, not very heartfelt attempt to sound pathetic to get attention from older siblings who are leaving you out. And it makes me laugh.
@kelaine yes I love their mohawk and watching them skipping through the lower branches around my yard.
Why should it be? The way NPR reported it, the Convict Would-Be King reportedly said he might decrease tariffs on China. Hadn’t done so. It hasn’t happened. It may not happen. It’s just more froth coming out of the mad dog’s mouth. Not worth even caring about.
I’ve had an epiphany. I’m convinced he’s not crazy. I’m convinced he’s doing Putin’s bidding exclusively now. Putin wants our democracy destroyed, our financial markets destroyed, our military defanged. In return Trump stands to have a billions of dollars payout courtesy the Russians and the Saudis (see Jared Kushner). and a retirement Dacha in some out of the way place. It’s the only way any of this makes sense. He lards the federal government with wholly unqualified nitwits and let’s them have the run of the place to the delight of Putin and the Crown Prince of Bone Saws. Sorry, this is what makes sense to me. Worrying about his day-to-day misses the point. The day-to-day is theater. The bond market goes next.
A lot of the ingredients for medications come from India. Pharmaceuticals are a big deal. Likewise with China. We import most of our life-saving drugs. India or China could bring our healthcare industry to its knees with some well placed tariffs or just by cutting off shipments. A whole lot of people would die.
Respectfully, we’ve been saying stuff like this for a long time. Remember Fitzmagic? The big DOJ muckety muck who was going to hold Bush/Cheney accountable? Or the total whiff on holding banksters accountable when they wrecked the global economy and millions lost their homes? Or Mueller? Or Impeachments? Or Garland/Smith? Or when abortion was outlawed?
If people haven’t come to grips with reality yet, and thought all of this was abstract…then we don’t need them (or certainly can’t count on them). I refer to some bastion (millions) of blue/indie voters who just can’t seem to get motivated enough to vote reliably. And the tariffs and economic impacts are going to hit everyone…we need to widen our base and message and who we are going after. Throw away the old tactics and the broken lens we’ve been looking through.
I have seen the following possible reasons for the missing pictures:
They were there, then they were missing.
They were never up,
The Commander instructed “someone” to take them down.
The Commander instructed “someone” to not hang them
They were hung, then turned around to face the wall.
There’s nothing on the wall.
There are empty frames on the wall.
What wall?
OK, yeah, snark on the last one, but every other one has been in an article.
In a statement, Fort McCoy’s Senior Commander Maj. Gen. Patrick J. Reinert said: ‘Col. Sheyla Baez Ramirez has been suspended as Garrison Commander at Fort McCoy. This suspension is not related to any misconduct. We have no further details to provide at this time while this matter is under review’
Was reported yesterday. Apparently some enterprising individuals (probably with an advance heads up) made a pile of money on the swing. @castor_troy linked to an article on it last night.
