A Ukrainian soldier who served on Snake Island at the start of Russia’s invasion and told a Russian warship to “go f*** yourself” has been awarded a medal for his service.
Roman Gribov – also spelled Hrybov – was one of 13 border guards initially reported as dead when Snake Island, a remote outpost in the Black Sea, came under Russian attack, but it was later discovered that they had been captured.
They were returned home a few days ago as part of the first exchange of captured soldiers between Ukraine and Russia.
