Trump Defense Turns Reality Upside Down To Cast Former President As Champion Of Peace | Talking Points Memo

From the start of the Trump defense team’s presentation Friday, the former president’s lawyers hit senators hard with a wave of false equivalencies and bogus claims that Donald Trump, in fact, was the messenger of peace seeking to calm America’s political waters from the turmoil created by violent Democrats.

Trump’s lawyers are just as misleading as he is!

Fox covering every second of this upside down “defense” of the dotard? People can only know what their information sources tell them and in Fox world the shit this lawyer cat is throwing out becomes viewers reality.

One should probably point out that lying in the Senate chamber is a felony … I don’t expect much, but it remains true.

Propaganda need not be true, just effective with the audience you want to reach. If Senators and Trump supporters want this as an excuse, they will take it. But most people will rightly dismiss it.

It should have been a discharge and, if Politico were a respectable news organization, McCammond would be looking for work as well.

Whenever Trump speaks, apparently, the music rises in the background.

  1. Trump spent 50 million dollars in ads for the “Stop the Steal” campaign from the middle of December to Jan 5th, 2021 (over 3 weeks). The press is barely reporting this fact. Maybe TPM should report this?

Stop the Steal was a very well funded campaign designed to influence Trump’s base.

  1. Trump tell his followers to go to the Capitol and to fight to Stop the Steal. How were they to fight? What did he intend for them to do? Shout loud outside the Capitol or jump up and down outside the Capitol to stop the Electoral College vote?

During the Dem’s “fight” sound-samples, I kept waiting for the vinyl scrubbing track.

Bringing Charlottesville into their defense is really pretty stupid. A MAGA terrorist drove a car into a crowd and killed someone there, too. Violence always seems to follow when Trump speaks to his supporters at a rally.

We have seen it time and time again. Protestors or news media being roughed up and Trump egging on the crowd to make sure someone gets hurt. He loves acting like a Russian Mafia hood.

Well he and his daughter-in-law did lead his rallies chanting “Lock her up” about Hillary Clinton, so that law and order?

This is about just pasting together enough out of context snippets of video to “prove” Trump’s lack of culpability to the Fox crowd. That, combined with the votes from enough corrupt R senators, will do enough for this entire thing to be swept under the rug, at least so far as the RW narrative is concerned.

As with the entirety of Trump’s presidency, the rest of the country, and our Constitution, can be damned so far as they are concerned.
