Trump’s mishandling of the pandemic is mainly not due to incompetence. It’s intentional. On the one hand he wants to suppress the numbers on people who’ve come down with the virus, thus the lack of tests, and on the other hand he’s punishing parts of the country that he views as anti-Trump, thus the lack of masks and other PPE, and ventilators. He WANTS people to die, but only certain people. He just doesn’t want it to be publicized. The man is ferociously venal and the only thing that moves him more than the need for adoration is his thirst for revenge. DON’T WATCH THIS DISGUSTING PR STUNT!

Someone up thread asked why the briefing was so early. It’s not that the weekend briefing is early; the weekday briefings are late. A few weeks ago they did the weekday briefings around 3 or 3:30, but the split-screen visual of the stock market starting to slide as soon as Trump started talking and continuing until he shut up was just too pointed. So weekday briefings got moved until after the stock market closed. Haven’t seen anyone say that, but that’s my take on it.
