If Kevin Trenberth says it, you can count on it. I talked to Kevin about 11 years ago in Boulder, Colorado about Global Average Temperatures and where we’re headed by 2050. At that time, he told me 2C. He’s since changed his views based on current trends. To say we’re in trouble doesn’t capture it. It’s worse than that. This El Niño is going to permanently shift us into new territory.
“‘I expect a step change to higher global mean temperatures starting this year,’ said atmospheric scientist Kevin Trenberth. “I expect it then to oscillate about that value and not come down again,” he said.

The Heritage and Federalist groups got everything they asked for and more from the Senators they purchased with their hard-earned donations. The Senate and the Senate alone has sat this SCOTUS bench. Every one of them.

2 quick anecdotes here -
Number one - In Feb '21 my MAGA brother-in-law died of COVID. About 2 weeks later one of his MAGA buddies called my wife to offer his condolences. When she told him the cause of death was Covid, he expressed serious doubt that was possible since my BIL was a “true patriot”. My wife just told him that was really an idiotic thing to say and we haven’t heard from him since.
Number two - totally unrelated to anything - My son-in-law has taken up pickle ball and one of his regular playing partners is Matt Salmon. For those who don’t know (I assume most of you) Matt was a Repub rep from AZ back in the 90s and early aughts and has run for governor twice, once getting beaten by Janet Napolitano back in 2002 and then dropping out before the primary in 2022. He is well known for being completely anti gay rights like marriage and adoption even though his son is gay. My daughter said I was being silly in calling Salmon a bad politician and saying I pretty much despised him until I showed her his public statements on gay rights (she has left the LDS church because of their stance on gay marriage). I told my SIL I have no problem with him playing pickleball with Salmon as long as he beats him mercilessly and repeatedly.
Happy 4th, everybody. Here in AZ we are just going to spontaneously combust instead of lighting fireworks.

Fact is you can be a four-star patriot and not pay taxes; if you have no income but only investment interest as a form of compensation, which are quite different forms of income, you’re off the hook for paying taxes.
“Natural” rights came out of The Enlightenment. That they were “self-evident” was OK in the 18th C.
