Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday pleaded with congressional Republicans to resist voting to form a bipartisan commission to investigate the Jan. 6 Capitol attack, which will likely cast a spotlight on his role in the deadly riot, calling the effort a “Democrat trap.”
There seem to be lots of “Democrat trap(s)” such as investigating the facts of an insurrection and laws making it easier for people vote. Reality itself risks becoming a ‘Democrat trap’…
McConnell’s hesitancy and effort to stall means the bill is likely to face challenges in the Senate, where Democrats will need at least 10 GOP votes to pass it.
The “bipartisan commission” thing deserves to die. Equal representation of Democrats and Perps?? No subpoenas can be issued unless the Guilty Party also agrees to it? What can such a “bipartisan” thing even accomplish? Other than giving Dems some good quotes and footage for anti-GQP ads.
Will McConnell let the Democrats kick the football this time? The suspense is killing me.
I’ve got an idea… maybe we Democrats should recruit convicted, (you know, proven), serial killers as candidates so we can know they’ll know how to cope with the GOP.
What is ‘unfair’ is to have a president of the United States out there in the open urging supporters to attack our Capitol. To attack Democracy. To PRETEND that they are victims and everyone else is to blame for their incompetence.
There’s a decent possibility that they don’t really want an investigation of the sources of violence in the demonstrations that he is using as a red herring.
“Republicans in the House and Senate should not approve the Democrat trap of the January 6 Commission,” Trump wrote in a statement Tuesday night. “It is just more partisan unfairness and unless the murders, riots, and fire bombings in Portland, Minneapolis, Seattle, Chicago, and New York are also going to be studied, his discussion should be ended immediately.”
I think Pelosi and Schumer should call their bluff, and agree to a separate Commission to examine the violence that T rumpp mentions here. Throw him a bone, but understand this separate commission will be formed to study and evaluate how systemic racism in this nation’s justice system led to, and fomented the violence he wants so badly to highlight. Shine a national spotlight on the cops who caused those riots in the first place!
