President Donald Trump’s feeling confident that the ventilator shortage crisis amid the COVID-19 pandemic is fixed. After all, that’s what Fox News host Sean Hannity is saying!
As far back as late November, U.S. intelligence officials were warning that a contagion was sweeping through China’s Wuhan region, changing the patterns of life and business and posing a threat to the population, according to four sources briefed on the secret reporting.
Concerns about what is now known to be the novel coronavirus pandemic were detailed in a November intelligence report by the military’s National Center for Medical Intelligence (NCMI), according to two officials familiar with the document’s contents.
The report was the result of analysis of wire and computer intercepts, coupled with satellite images. It raised alarms because an out-of-control disease would pose a serious threat to U.S. forces in Asia – forces that depend on the NCMI’s work. And it paints a picture of an American government that could have ramped up mitigation and containment efforts far earlier to prepare for a crisis poised to come home.
“Analysts concluded it could be a cataclysmic event,” one of the sources said of the NCMI’s report. “It was then briefed multiple times to” the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Pentagon’s Joint Staff and the White House.
Well I’m convinced…Mr. Hannity is one of my go-to sources for reliable information. (In case this could be misunderstood, I’m being as sarcastic as possible here.)
There’s quite a buzz in medical circles and sure as shit don’t jibe with Trump or Hannity. Yesterday 2000 Americans died of COVID related symptoms. Just about all the journals front page themselves with a chart showing death rates and it is an upward trend. There’s already talk of what Docs will do when they’re maxed out…100% of their vents assigned to patients and more being admitted that need them. How will you triage that? Can you imagine being a physician having to do that? Everyone except Hannity and Trump agree that time is coming and it is near.
It’s incomprehensible how two men can hold on to the image of their ideas by lying through their teeth about how good they are when reality shows them to be utter failures. And what kind of a monster must you be to do that?
Trump to Hannity: I believe “everyone is in great shape from the standpoint of ventilators” based on what I’ve seen on your show. pic.twitter.com/5Ctz4YGk6I
Seriously! This reads exactly like the Wizard of Oz, and the awful Sand Hannitizer is the Wizard. What he says, the Dotard believes. Next is to fetch the broomstick of the wicked Pelosi.
Ventilators have been looked at as the savior with this disease, but now we’re seeing that they really aren’t. Josh’s piece yesterday driven by the NYC front line doc expressed this.
You just don’t want to get to that point. Keep away from other people.
Edit And, NPR has stepped up again. This is the reporting they used to do all the time.
It isn’t hard to guess what comes next: the claim that hospitals have plenty of ventilators, but they’re refusing to put MAGA supporters on them. Doctors and nurses will be the targets of MAGA hatred.
The figures I’ve seen indicate that somewhere between 60-80% of COVID-19 patients put on ventilators end up dead. Draw your own conclusions on where our public health priorities should be.
Hannity has the highest rated show on cable. Now that more people are sitting home with nothing else to do, his viewership is bound to increase. One would think there would be a law against spreading lies on via broadcast media. There’s not. He can’t be sued either. People have tried to sue a local Fox news channel for lying and misrepresenting their report on hormones and the dairy industry. Fox won. Only in Canada is lying over the airwaves illegal.
