I suppose that’s one possible diagnosis. It’s far from being the only one, however, to say nothing of the most likely one – and the evidence for either one is decidedly lacking. So, in short, that diagnosis is more reflective of personal bias on the part of the “diagnostician” rather than of objective reality.
This. A thousand times this.
Back in 2016, it was easier for them. Elizabeth Warren had decided it was a bad idea to run against Hillary Clinton (and the reasons why that may have been the case I leave for a different discussion) – so the only person championing a different ideology from “manistream” Democratic-leadership politics was some old grumpy shouty Jew from Vermont, who for some reason, but I’m sure having absolutely nothing to do with ageism or anything else *cough*antisemitism*cough* everyone round here couldn’t stand, and who everyone from Peter Daou to the commentariat here were projecting as “establishment” because supposedly “white” and male, never mind the decades of political connections and wealth connected to the establishment by The Candidate.
Now it’s harder. The unruly ones are women of color, young and older. One’s Latinx, another’s a Palestinian Arab, another’s a brown immigrant woman from the Somali immigrant community, and so on. And they’re not S’ingTFU. Suddenly the pretense of the power structure and their allies here of championing POC over the “old white guy” establishment is falling away. Because none of these folks are old white guys, but one thing they’re not doing is kowtowing to the exsisting Democratic Party power structure. They are not going to “know their place”, they are not going to yield any more than Auntie Maxine is going to yield; they are not going
“know their place”, or go to the “back of the bus” where they “belong”.
Ironically, the poster I quoted above replied to tena, who made a somewhat similar point, “Not sure of your point.”
That’s the problem, in a nutshell. Anyone who’s been round these parts for any length of time knows that if you’re relentlessly defending the leadership, and you and said leadership have lost tena, of all people, you might want to reconsider your position. But sadly, all available evidence shows that such thinking is beyond them.
