It’s a lot easier to kick a ball than to kick a column of water.
Peaking way too early?
That’s the one!
Nope, you are not missing a thing. He is a total political non-entity. With a temporary title.
Trump actually is an essential worker, for Vladimir Putin.
Not this president - he is not an essential worker, he’s not even a worker, he has no clue what that word even means. Kings are not workers. geez.
Maynard G. Krebbs!
Well - it’s possible this sentencing was involved in the sudden ‘firing/resignaton’ of Berman, no? I mean he WAS sniffing around the Epstein Barr connection.
Perhaps Barr WAS going to bat for this guy - but bungled it. And perhaps THIS guy, is singing (or willing to sing) to Strauss?
In the immortal words of the orange shitgibon “Some people say - I dunno - We’ll see…”
it would be easy to beat Pence: he’s attached to Trump’s coattails for one, but also he has a bad record in Indiana.
I can’t believe all those brains around Biden aren’t canny enough to be preparing for this.
This particular President is not “essential” in any sense of the word. Where is he on the Coronavirus crisis that’s ravaging the country? Sloughing off his responsibilities onto state and local leaders.
You show me someone who spends upwards of 8 hours/day in “executive time”, tweeting and watching tv, and I’ll show you the very description of a nonessential entity.
No, but the guv just burned him. That there was sarcasm, dished out by a mouth in which butter would not melt.
I don’t know why we are being spared his presence, but it may just be the bad weather we are expecting NJ this weekend.
Very few people are excited about Biden, they are simply voting against trump. Pence would be a different matter - republicans could hold their nose and vote for him. Don’t look at Pence as Pence, look at him as not trump and yes, he is a threat.
Trump running will bring out Progressive and first time voters and those who protested. Biden is not winning, trump is losing.
Appears that going forward … when wondering why Donnie Dum - dum does the things he does in the way he does … it will be essential to factor in the fact that he is now mega freaked out about the possibility of him getting the virus himself ! He is willing to build a wall of other peoples dead bodies as a barrier to protect him … and yet he will insanely continue to carry on the “re-opening” charades … but with endless psychotic germaphobe behavior
Whistling past the graveyard. Any republican is a danger, trump is not a republican. Bolton was right about that.
So was Bush Jr. and he won. Never underestimate the republican party voters.
You aren’t missing it.
Pence is a nobody, and even the GOP knows this. The man couldn’t even win re-election for governor in IN, that’s why he accepted the VP slot, with visions of riding Trump coattails into the WH in 2024.
Trump has thoroughly dirtied him and destroyed any hope of such visions.
So the scenario goes, Trump steps down, Pence is the candidate (there is some pretty big gray areas being assumed here, but lets go with it), and Pence has to give Trump a pardon as part of that deal (otherwise, no way Trump steps down).
Pence is still just as hated as Trump by the left as Trump is the moment he signs that. He is hated by independents just as much…probably more…in that same instant. And he also manages to lose a significant portion of the diehard Trumpers who won’t accept anyone but Trump at the top of the ticket. And the NeverTrump republicans? Yeah, they are dropping any and everybody associated with Trump like a hot potato.
Pence manages to lose by even larger margins than Trump would have lost. Though, on the plus side for the GOP, there would be some small opportunity to mitigate the down ballot disaster coming their way…probably not enough to save the Senate, but enough to prevent a complete blowout. Think 5 or 6 Senate seats instead of 10 or 12.
Now the grey issue being glossed over…Trump resigning puts the GOP into a real quandary, because Pence is not the nominee. If he resigns before the convention, than they have some haphazard way of making him the nominee, but if its after the convention…then it goes it gets really squirrelly. They could, through some weird emergency rule, nominate someone else as their candidate, and lock Pence out of the ticket entirely (not likely, but then, this scenario of Trump resigning I don’t think is likely).
They key point here is, just because the Constitutional succession path is Pence becomes President if Trump resigns, the RNC is in no way bound to that in determining who their candidate is.
On a completely unrelated tangent…
The trivia game in bars, NTN, has an advertisement that just makes me crack up.
“If you can lift a glass to drink, you can lift a finger to play trivia”…
So I guess Trump isn’t gonna be playing trivia
A pardon cannot be issued for “future crimes”. So, at best, Pence could write a pardon for any Federal crimes since Trump was born, through the date that the pardon is issued, but not one day after.
That particular pardon is not the norm, either. Usually pardons are written to pardon a person of a specific crime or crimes, not and open ended…“for all offenses”. But its a valid pardon.
The “absolute” is just some basic lawyery talk that means the pardonee is released from all punishments, and have all civil rights restored without any qualification.
