Thread.

1 Sure enough, the story concocted by Trump’s ghostwriter was false.

The first rule of Trumpclub is- Don’t believe anything they say.
The second rule of Trumpclub is- Everything they say is a desperate attempt to hide Trump’s incompetence & dementia.https://t.co/HT3jpB9s4g

It was amazing.

I took pictures, but they didn’t come out.

I don’t believe him. There was no meeting scheduled. He’s a liar.

So, it appears that negotiations weren’t really going anywhere, and certainly not a meaningful meeting at Camp David today (or probably at all). This is all about Trump once again trying to look tough.

Dear DJT,
Please join the Taliban and become their commander in terrorism. Then maybe we can get rid of you.

He’s changed a lot hasn’t he ?

As well as undermining them.

Interpenting Trump’s photo above!

“When someone crosses their arms, it usually means that they’re closed for arguments. By crossing the arms, a barrier is put in front of the body, as some sort of protection. Putting an object in front of you may be the same signal.”
“Another reason for crossing arms may be that you’re feeling vulnerable or insecure. The crossing of arms may then be interpreted as a sort of “self-hug”, to comfort yourself.”

“…great, great soldiers.” Nothing says “To hell with the military” better than these breadcrumbs of over-compensation.

“What kind of people would kill so many in order to seemingly strengthen their bargaining position?”

Indeed.

It would be better if the headline conveyed that “Trump claims [story]”, until independent confirmation is acquired. His word is worth nothing.

Pompeo is on This Week with George Stephanopoulos, and just said that Iran will not get a nuclear weapon on Trump’s watch. It may be true that they don’t get one in the next year and a couple of months.

I thought a ceasefire was something one had to agree to, not an automatic result of being willing to talk. If the administration did not propose a ceasefire as a condition of talks, that was a choice. Maybe diplomatic malpractice, but still a choice. If it did propose a ceasefire and the idea was rejected, the administration can hardly complain now, after (purportedly) agreeing to talks without a ceasefire. I seem to recall that the US bombed North Vietnam during peace talks…

Also, probability that he composed that tweet is somewhat lower than the risk of hurricane winds in Alabama.

For a narcissist who doesn’t read, use of the word ‘unbeknownst’ seemed unusual to me. First, I wonder who told him or if he had to look it up. Second, it seems almost redundant with this President…almost everything he does is ‘unbeknownst’ until he actually does it.

I have to confess that as soon as I heard about this I thought it was typical–blowing up a risky, pointless negotiation out of childish impatience and frustration. To be honest it didn’t occur to me that this was probably pure fantasy. I thought he imagined that face to face his awesome persona would overawe and cow these hardened fighters and they’d give him whatever he wanted. But of course there’s no evidence and couldn’t be this meeting was even a possibility. I apologize and will do better in the future. :pensive:

Trump blurts more secret stuff.
The Taliban aren’t as unified as trump may think as it sure looks like there are factions who don’t take anyone’s orders. There was a car bomb that killed a US soldier and nearly a dozen others right when the Taliban negotiating team was to travel here and that, I think, was meant to ruin the deal making.

So, when the Taliban says there was never a meeting scheduled, who do we believe?

This is what we’ve been reduced to, folks, the Taliban’s word is more trustworthy than the president of the United States. Welcome to Trumpworld.

Just saw Pompeo on Jake Tapper’s show. Tapper asked Pompeo several times – When did you first learn that there was going to be a secret meeting?

Pompeo wouldn’t/couldn’t answer, and just resorted to memorized talking points.

Too bad. They would have won you that Nobel Prize. Good thing you’re above such things.
