Trump Can’t Legally Change The Election Day — But He Can Try To Undermine The Results | Talking Points Memo

The President doesn’t have the authority to change the date of Election Day. But words never fail our commander in chief. So on Thursday morning, he suggested doing just that.

Life in prison for POS Trump. Settle for nothing less.

He’s laying the groundwork for a challenge to the result he knows is coming. It may be the only path to victory. Challenge the electoral college outcome and force a vote in the house. It will require collusion from SCOTUS, I suspect Barr is already on that.

The dilemma for the bad guys is this kind of chaos is exactly what people are fed up with.

The President doesn’t have the authority to change the date of Election Day.

But he would like to…because jail!
So Trump has only 2 gears wrt to re-election:

Read what a constitutional scholar tweeted:

That would end in Civil War. They’re not going that route, it’s clear from their anemic attempts at authoritarianism in Portland, D.C., Seattle and elsewhere that they don’t have near the levels of support to even attempt that.

However, I think they attempt, then check support. Partly why they’ve failed.

I think Trump’s supporters should boycott the election on the first Tuesday in November. That will show the Dems.

Agree. I think that’s why trump ran this up (and pinned the tweet to the top of his twitter) the flagpole, he’ll be watching to see how fox news covers and if it gets any legs.

I figured we’d face the first major attempt at outright fascism in America under Numbnuts, but never in a billion years would any of us have predicted we’d do so during a crushing global pandemic. We really go big in this country, if nothing else.

This election is going to have more conspiracy theories swirling around it than the Kennedy assassination.

The ironic thing is that the thing that’s killing us may well be the thing that saves us.

Absent covid, his fascism movement would be much closer to clinching a second term, at which point that would be the last election ever, because he’d have the next four years to complete his takeover and dismantling of institutions meant to stop that sort of thing.

“Trump can’t legally [do x]” is perhaps the least comforting and relevant construction I can think of. He doesn’t give a crap about legality, and more importantly Barr doesn’t give a crap. Barr is the key henchman in all of this. The guy devising the legal framework for a secret police, for the disruption of mail-in ballots, for the declaration of emergency.

The hallmark of Fascists successfully winning in a democracy is a claim, often followed by initial success, that they can make the trains run on time. What about you would lead you to think Trump’s rag tag team of toadies could ever organize a 2 car parade let alone make the trains run on time.

He’s so stupid that everyone will expect delay, obfuscation, repudiation, yadda yadda, and see it coming a mile away - and prepare for every possible contingency.

Trump: “With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good)…”

Donald Trump lies all the time about everything to everyone.

Absentee Voting is the method that allows for fraud, because it depends upon the individual’s honesty, which is why Dishonest Donald likes it. It can’t be easily monitored across jurisdictions.
