Trump Camp Uses Outbreak To Flaunt POTUS’ Response In New Ad Amid Rising Death Toll

The Trump reelection campaign unveiled a new ad titled “American Comeback” on Sunday that trumpeted President Donald Trump’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic even as the number of fatalities from the virus in the U.S. continues to grow.

The 60-second spot […] features soundbites of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) and California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) praising the administration’s assistance to their states

Will critics of Birx and Fauci now lambaste Newsom and Cuomo?

I don’t think most voters are in the mood to see Trump thump his chest as the mortality and infection rates continue to climb as do unemployment numbers. He couldn’t be anymore out of touch with current life in America if he were orbiting above the earth in a space station.

That brought to mind the infamous photos of bush the lesser peering out the window of a 747, looking down at Katrina wreckage and flooding.

I can respect propaganda when it’s done well, but that was just noisy and disjointed. Obstreperous
you might say.

That’s how you do it: leverage supplies and tests to coax praise from blue state governors, then use that praise to run your reelection campaign. Say nice things or your people die. Extortion. May the governors and their states be secure enough soon so these governors can speak their minds.

I doubt this will move very many, if any voters from blue to red. There just aren’t that many undecided voters up for grabs any more. And perhaps those that are might compare the willingness of these Dem governors to work with Trump as a measure of their openness as opposed to Trumpian bluster, mendacity, self praise and mean zero sum transactionalism; I can dream.

I see this as an effort to reassure his base. And I would remind everyone that Trump has failed in more ways than the Coronavirus response. Covid-19 notwithstanding, there’s still plenty of reasons to vote against him.

Trump is foolish to use those governors, or any liberal governors, in an ad praising him…he’s setting himself up for a vigorous takedown. These two governors are leading efforts to insulate their states from federal interference in PPE acquisition, and joining other states to work together because the federal government has failed them. When the death rates continue to climb, when we get to the fall with more and more sick and dead people, these governors will be the ones leading the charge to lay out how poorly Trump led during the crisis, and will give us the background that they are holding back now because they fear Trump will deny their states desperately needed aid.

If the numbers being talked about today are accurate, we are looking at 30k Americans per day being diagnosed, and 3k deaths per day, through the summer…I think that is accounting for the states opening up right now, if it’s not the numbers may increase even more. We have six months to the election, so if those numbers stay constant until then it’s 5.4 million more infected and 540k dead, on top of the numbers already…that’s more dead than WW2, and likely a low number on infected (it may be 10 times that many). Even if the numbers come out as half of that, it’s still a huge number…it will be interesting to watch the Republicans try to flaunt the results of Trump’s “leadership” then.

This struck me the same way.

Its like a North Korean commercial for the Dear Leader. The gaslighting continues. It’s so tone-deaf and out of touch. Not an ounce of compassion anywhere to be seen in this ad. No acknowledgement of the toll this has taken on the American people. Simply patting himself on the back is all is boils down to. It proves he couldn’t be more distant from what’s actually happening around us. This ad is incongruent with where most people are at.

Oh dear. Well, this is off-putting to say the least.

In perspective, I suspect the Pentagon thinks likewise. Lotta virus-rattling going on.

Gotta say its really not a good time for a fucking war, y’know during a pandemic and all. Can we maybe hold this off for a year or two until we all get back on our feet, and maybe have our heads screwed on straight by then?

So America was great, not that you did anything to really help that except not fuck it up for a while. But then you let it get fucked up and although maybe belatedly slowed things down have’t turned it around yet. But you claim soon you’ll get it great again. You seem like Dubya only worse.
