If he doesn’t manage to void the election results, the Democratic Congress will investigate him and his henchmen non-stop through the fall of 2028. And it will cut off funds for his idiotic Iranian war, his beloved ballroom, and his triumphal arch. And it’ll probabl impeach him (even though the Senate votes won’t be there to convict)–maybe multiple times.
He knows this. He knows that the Democratic Congress will be ready to all-but-crucify him. And that’s his incentive to do everything he and his Repug puppets can think of to block and nullify the midterms.
Will he get away with this? Will the Supremos back him down the line?
I dunno. But We the People will have to fight like hell to stop him. Are We up to that?

Tonight in Independence, Missouri, hometown of Harry Truman, city councilman John Perkins got absolutely rocked, losing a recall election with 68% voting to end his term immediately over his vote for a big data center. Construction is already underway on the 400 acre, $150 billion Nebius AI data center. The city council apparently gave the data center a 90% tax abatement, according to the linked TV story. So you get the sense that Perkins was flying a bit close to the sun.

Independence was my home town, where I lived and worked for about 50 years. This boob deserved to be bounced. He gave a giant tax break to a data center that will probably fail leaving a giant empty building but not before it drains Independence of electricity and water for the years it will struggle to compete with the handful of Ellison and Musk projects that will all ultimately fail. The AI bubble is doomed in the same way the Tulip bubble was doomed a couple of centuries ago. This boob will go back to cutting meat at the local grocery never understanding that he betrayed the people of his city by giving it a long term eyesore for a hope and a prayer, It is what happens when you listen to billionaires bearing gifts.

Yeah I keep asking people what on earth does a noncitizen have to gain by voting…aside for potential deportation or being shipped off to a godforsaken facility in a faraway country.

The other thing that irks me about this whole falderol is that yes there will be mistakes, we’re only human after all, but the number of mistakes would not be high.
This is all about control and making up stupid reasons that voters have to jump through hoops just to vote.
This is from Josh’s latest blog post on the subject and points out just what the problem is with the Independence Data Center.
To power the Nebius data center, the Dutch company will be working with Independence Power and Light to reopen a power plant at the site of the decommissioned Blue Valley Power Plant, which was closed in 2020. When Blue Valley was operational, it could generate up to 90 MW of energy, so changes will need to be made so it can handle the needs of the data center, which are more than tenfold.
There were a lot of reasons they closed that old plant down in 2020, mostly it needed to be rebuilt which was prohibitively expensive in a world where coal electric plants are being phased out everywhere and replaced by gas plants. .Independence Power and Light is a city owned electric company. How is Independence going to pay for the rebuild of the old power plant. Will it be coal or gas fired? Do they have a contract for the gas or coal? What about polution? Can they meet environmental demands. How are they going to pay for the rebuild? Bonds? That is pretty risky if you have a single ratepayer in a yet to be proven industry.
