Trump Calls Jan. 6 Rally That Incited Deadly Insurrection A ‘Love Fest’ | Talking Points Memo

Contrition has never been Donald Trump’s strong suit.

After a meandering speech at CPAC, the former president’s first public address since leaving office, Trump called into the safe space of Fox News Sunday night to sound off on the Jan. 6 rally that incited a crowd of his supporters to storm the Capitol, resulting in five deaths and millions of dollars in property damage.

Sigh.

This is about as close as it’s going to get to “contrition,” especially since he’s still saying that he won the election. But what’s that they say about “close” only counting in horseshoes and, um, hand grenades?

Oh no. He has gone back to phoning in on Fox. The silence had been so restful. Will Fox ever refuse to put him on air? Will media eventually stop covering what he says?

Might as well add the Seven Cardinal Virtues while we’re at it.

Fuck what Trump thinks, he’s yesterday.
But run Katrina… run:

Katrina Pierson, a Tea Party activist who served as a spokesperson for Trump’s 2016 campaign and as top adviser on his failed re-election bid, is planning to file in the coming days to run for Wright’s seat, based southeast of Fort Worth and stretching into rural Ellis and Navarro counties, according to five sources with knowledge of her planning.

A source close to Pierson said she is building a campaign team ahead of a likely announcement, though a final decision about whether to enter the race was coming in the next day or two.

Seriously, we had a Trump commenting marathon yesterday. It was so boring, Goya, legumes and beans were more interesting topics.

before launching into a rant about a “double standard” when it comes to Black Lives Matter protests in Seattle, Portland and elsewhere.

…and thus demonstrating the entirety of the republican party platform and their current reason for existence. If it wasn’t for resentment and grievance, they’d float off the face of the earth.

It’s amazing how many people still believe in this jerk-off and the other Senators and House members who said nasty things and then went into hiding while others did the dirty work.
If Trump Inc truly thought this mob was going to take over our Government and put Trump in as President they all would have been present .
This was just a side show for Trump’s ego.

Go back in your basement!

I get the sense that Trump needs to stay in the public’s view and in control of the far right of the Republican Party in order for him to fight the numerous legal challenges he and his family now face. I have no doubt that he will ask current Congress members who claim fealty to his corrupt and dangerous ways to be his voice to the public to further incite those who cannot think for themselves and feel disenfranchised to physically act on his behalf. It’s the threat as well as the action that he will claim only he can control, so the legal system should leave him alone. Those Congress members need to be purged from our government, and hopefully that will occur via the vote of citizens.

We are not over Trump. He is a messenger and a tool that the Republican Party thought they could use and toss away, but misread the situation as Trump tapped into the hopefully last remnants of racism that has always been part of this country in a way that was too open for the Republicans (I think they’d prefer the wink wink nudge nudge approach). That philosophy is now exposed for all to see on a daily basis.

We need to apply all legal approaches to investigate corruption by the Trump family. Same with politicians, at the state and national level, who incited and helped these terrorists. We now need to maintain the integrity of the process, and show that the rule of law holds.

And if that is not enough, we need to legislate solutions to our current problems, so Congress needs to perform multiple tasks. We cannot let public complacency to take place and allow our desire to “be normal” to preclude an honest assessment into what happened, who is responsible, and what do we need to do to ensure that our rights as citizens are safeguarded - for all citizens. We have both national and international issues to deal with, but we cannot ignore what we just witnessed and experienced, we need to get to work. Patience will be required, because we cannot get it all immediately done, but we cannot forget (or forgive) those that set the stage for what happened to this country. We will now have to show what our standards are before the world court of public opinion and more importantly history. And Trump and his minions simply don’t cut it as a viable answer to our internal problems, and that will need to be shown to his supporters.

And after about a month of constant propaganda - the typical RepubliQan will tell you (with a straight face) that Speaker Pelosi organized Antifa goons to infiltrate the lovely Trump supporters and ordered the Capital guards to stand down and watch so she could blame it on Trump. Also, too - thanks to Jesus and the Proud Boys for being there to stop the carnage.

Just to say the words, Trump’s statement is spot on correct (so, he actually can say something that is not a lie)

“It was tremendous numbers of people, not the Capitol, I’m talking about the rally itself. It was a love fest. It was a beautiful thing,” Trump said.

This headline is misleading by a mile. Trump said the crowd came because they love, love, love him. He is correct. His statement has noting to do with attacking the Capital shortly after (also because they love Trump).

Trump Calls Jan. 6 Rally That Incited Deadly Insurrection A ‘Love Fest’

Trump calls it a “Love Fest” because there were thousands of people demonstrating their love for him. “Hang Mike Pence” doesn’t sound like love lyrics to me. Trump’s concept of love involves no one but himself.
