Anybody care to guess why he was suddenly inspired to do this? Could it be because he believes presidents are always re-(s)elected when they’re at war?

President Trump reportedly decided to authorize the strike that killed top Iranian military official Qasem Soleimani on Thursday just a couple days earlier.

Just another example of the calm, sober reflection that we’ve come to expect from our commander-in-chief.

That, and perhaps also to help out Bibi, who also has his issues.

It goes without saying that this is a new level of recklessness for him. For a long time he seemed hesitant to kill people, or get himself (never mind the other involved parties) into something he couldn’t get out of. That’s over now. He’s down for whatever. So fasten your seatbelts.

Sorry, “Trust us” is not sufficient.

This is useless. It provides a sort of cover (like Epstien’s Mother)

Although the official wouldn’t say what intelligence prompted the strike, CNN reported that it became clear that Soleimani took the lead in a specific and imminent threat against the U.S.

Bullshit.

“We did not feel the need to ask for authorization over basic rights of self defense,” the administration official told CNN.

This, and the need to deflect attention from Impeachment, tells the whole story.

Sorry, but I just awoke from an extremely long nap. Has President WildlyStupidFuck done anything really stupid lately?

Something seems off about this statement. “We did not feel the need to ask for authorization over basic rights of self defense,” the administration official told CNN.

“We did not feel the need to ask for authorization over basic rights of self "offense,” the administration official told CNN. There. Fixed It.

We need to know what the intelligence is and where it came from…a single source used as the basis for a strike of this magnitude is not a good idea. If that source was Russia, or Israel, or really anywhere, then they should have taken into account the reasons those places would want us to hit Iran, or get Iran angry and throwing out threats. If it was Israel, I can just imagine Bibi wanting an angry Iran to run against so he can remain in office…that’s just one example of how intelligence can be used against us.

And, really, where was the CIA in that meeting? They should have had sources who could confirm whatever the intelligence was, and if something imminent really was going to happen. Honestly, Republicans have used this tactic before, and it’s always turned out to be BS that we were just about to be hit, so it’s really suspect that this would happen at this time without some indication of what was coming (and so many government people were shocked by this that I find it highly unlikely a long term plot was brewing and about to come to a head).

The danger of what they have done should have far outweighed any advantages in killing Soleimani, and that should have been obvious…now we wait to see what the blowback is, as troops are scrambled back into the zone. Just another Middle East screwup by Trump (Syria being the biggest before this), odds are more to come.

White House lawyers were in consultation with national security officials in putting together a “strong rationale” that the strike targeting Soleimani wouldn’t spur a war and that Trump had the authority as commander in chief to not request congressional authorization over a matter of self defense — the legal rationale behind the administration failing to give Congress a heads up before the strike’s authorization.

“We did not feel the need to ask for authorization over basic rights of self defense,” the administration official told CNN.

The language of the level of threat reminds me of the Tom Ridge “Threat Color Warning” days.

So are we going to replay that absurd playbook/game again? Better stock up on duct tape That and a replay of Cheney’s reelection threats that if he and W weren’t reelected, it wouldn’t be an issue of IF we would be attacked again, but WHEN. The Trumpsters are so entralled/cultified that the would fall for it again and wouldn’t recognize it as GOP tried, tired public duping.

Oh come on. You know every motherfucking GOTPer out there considers the possibility of a Democrat being elected POTUS to be " a specific and imminent threat against the U.S .".

Do we know anything about this “American contractor” who was killed last week in Kirkuk that started this thing? Like a name? Or the name of the company the contractor worked for? Or what the contractor’s job was?

We’re potentially going to war over the death of one person we don’t even know the name of?
