Trump Attorney Starts Off Cohen Cross With Limpid Exam

It was touted as the biggest fight in the trial of the century.

Michael Cohen, the arch-nemesis of Donald Trump, would finally face withering cross-examination on the stand. He would come face to face with attorneys for the former and potentially future President.

Theory: Trump is setting up an inadequate council defense.

Blanche was bland. He tried to come off as incredulous but failed. Cohen used his twerpiness to his advantage.

It’s possible Blanche is keeping his powder dry.

If you believe that one, I have a bridge to sell ya.

Blanche spent his time stroking Trump’s ego by calling Cohen a liar and implying he had terribly betrayed Trump by turning state’s witness. Trump’s only viable strategy is trying to get a hung jury via convincing at least one juror to engage in jury nullification. The best they can do is try (and fail) to portray Trump as the “true victim” here.

Q: “Is it true you think I am a crybaby piece of shit?”

A: “Yes.”

Q: “Is it true you are not a hand puppet of the DAs office?”

A: “Yes.”

Brilliant legal strategy!

I gotta say. If I were paying this clown car posse off asshats a dime to defend me, I’d be furious.

Blanche, for all his resume really does embody the reasons I’m never, ever impressed by degrees or fancy jobs or titles. Blanche is a fucking moron. He starts off his cross of Cohen by whining about a post Cohen made about Blanche. Talk about a whiny snowflake. How is that relevant? And my immediate reaction the other day to the utter irrelevance of going hard after Stormy Daniels, painting her as a liar turned out to be spot on. Even Merchan was stunned by that stupid decision, mostly because their entire defense was “ass and titties” and the defense never objected to all kinds of salacious testimony. Not only that, but I was right about its complete irrelevance. Doesn’t matter for shit if she made it up or not. The defense was playing a shell game with the jurors and they lost.

Bottom line, there’s nothing so freeing as assuming all these scary imposing douchebags are just that, douches. Blanche sure is, and so is his stupid client.

Totally agree. Blanche is looking for more billings by playing to Fat Boy. But he’s lost the jury. And history will not be kind to Blanche, who will be painted as a loser and a shitty lawyer.

And this fucking asshat used to be a federal prosecutor. Fuck, we really need standards in this country.

How about some good standards?

As the old quote goes (ascribed to Grace Hopper, among others), the wonderful thing about standards is that there are so many to choose from.

So what would be a good way to cross Cohen? Serious question from a non-lawyer.

What lawyer in his right mind would want to be caught between a prosecutor who was building a strong case and Donald Trump’s hostile second guessing?

Why would Blanche set himself up for this? Does he really expect this craziness to be reputation or career enhancing?

The only thing I am afraid of in this case is somebody has paid off one or more of the jurors. Other than that the prosecution has gotten in all of the evidence needed to convict. The cross is as aimless as the cross of Stormey Daniels. It is sufficent to entertain the press but little more.

Limpid also describes TFG’s eyes and general demeanour.

To be fair, Blanche doesn’t really have any options here as his client is guilty as sin and the prosecutors have him dead to rights. A more competent lawyer would have only taken the case if they could convince the defendant to accept a plea deal on the misdemeanor falsifying business records charge and trying to negotiate probation only during sentencing. That’s the best Trump could really hope for given the voluminous amount of evidence against him.

Money.

Though, he may be questioning if any amount of money is worth having Trump as a client right now.

The Charles Bronson impersonater from the press conferences?!

Nah. IANAL but Blanche being aimless and weak doesn’t arise anywhere near any case for inadequate council. It’s more likely that Donnie will upbraid Blanche on Twitter, and that tomorrow Blanche will try to course-correct. But he didn’t land any body blows today, and he’s not likely to on Thursday.
