Trump-Appointed Leader Of Worker Protection Agency Directs Focus On DEI, 'Binary Reality of Sex'

Total athletes: approximately 510,000.
Transgender athletes: fewer than 10.

It’s such a scourge.

Yes, I get it, but why do Democrats insist on making it an important issue when it effects less than 1% of the population? This is how Democrats lose their way.

Like everything coming from this administration, it’s all about white men’s grievances. Even the Afrikaners who recently got to jump the line to get into the USA don’t want to be called refugees or victims. The special treatment is a signal to the angry white guy MAGA base.

Obviously, you dehumanize an entire class of people, seems a reasonable argument so that Karen wont lose her scholarships.

Id also prefer to keep the platform more generally applicable, but fighting for human and minority rights IS protecting all of us. Even white folks.

Or else, how many rights do you think minorities should be allowed? There is no middle ground.

Either everyone has all the rights.
Or none of us have any.

On that, we concur. I feel like the Democrats got way, way out over their skis. They’re not wrong, of course, about the rights questions involved, but they didn’t seem to notice that an entire right-wing machine was at the ready to blow it out of all proportion and make their cultists believe it was an everyday problem that had to be stopped. And apparently, suffering fascism is fine, as long as the transgendered hordes don’t invade locker rooms.

There were girls on my daughter’s high school team who were convinced this was an imminent issue. Meanwhile, her school has zero transgendered athletes, AFAIK.

Agreed (LOL) and besides, it’s kinda freaky …

LOL! An entire class of people?

And what about your reference to the Karens of the world? You know, female athletes.

Meanwhile, her school has zero transgendered athletes, AFAIK.

So let’s sue the school, stand on the courthouse steps, call the media in and show our outrage. Meanwhile …

ETA: Sorry, mixed posts

Right. And it makes for a great commencement address but doesn’t win elections.

Women athletes have a right to exist, attend school, and play sports. Their rights are not being impacted.

You confuse rights with privileges. No one has a right to an althletic scholarship.

Today at Kohl’s there was a good-sized sign indicating that everyone is welcome. At least one company is not bowing to the Orange Turd.

It is “circumventing the agency’s agreed-upon process,” said Jenny Yang, a former EEOC chair and commissioner and current partner at Outten & Golden LLP. “It is exceeding the authority of the chair.”

Well, I can see your problem right there. You see, Jenny, they don’t give a shit about agreed upon processes. They are on a mission from God.

The freakout about this is just that - a freakout. You can tell because it lacks any kind of nuance. For example a Trans- woman who took puberty blockers would not have the advantages conferred by testosterone. And some sports, like fencing, are coed anyway. So, getting into a tizzy about the “unfairness” of this is really mostly about being weird about Trans folk in general and has little or nothing to do with fairness in sports.

Mushrooms mate? Clearly my education has been badly neglected.

Can we celebrate mushrooms during Pride Month this June to take the heat off trans folks?

The Democratic position could be described as defending the equality rights of human beings regardless of the source of their ‘otherness’. Otherness being defined, broadly loudly and viciously by Republicans. Democrats defence of trans people has been warped by the ferocity with which they have been attacked by Republicans, despite their small numbers. When Trump 2.0 proceeds to throw them out of the military and terminate their benefits, someone should defend them. When the life and health of pregnant women suffering a miscarriage is endangered, someone should defend them.

Spectrum is a concept the ‘binary reality’ folks have a very hard time with in all sorts of contexts. Also uncertainty. Zero sum is their default mode.

Democrats should not be the arbiters of sports disputes. I admit that I have zero interest in sports, either College or Professional, so take my comment with that in mind. It would seem that in the very few cases where this issue is a factor, it is the schools/ sports venues who need to formulate a policy that makes it fair for the women who are being outclassed by trans men.
Women are after all, used to having to be 3X better at men in any endeavor. Seems like this is a good introduction to the real world for the women athletes.

It seems to me that many Olympic (women?) athletes are pretty marginal females anyway, given the amount of testosterone levels they are exhibiting.
Maybe that is the measure that should apply to any athletic event. Over a certain level of testosterone rules you out of women’s events.

that’s funny and interesting on so many levels. And a way to get your head taken off!
(It’s a good thing were both old)

There are so many reasons I am glad to be old and will not be here to see the US slide into a country run by rightwing dictators.

The Democratic Party supports communities marginalized by mind-numbingly cruel and stupid authoritarians selling their wares as if they are steeped in reality. The press and a landscape of apologists contend the Democrats made this their issue when, in fact, it is nothing more than a corporate press in thrall to the authoritarians that keep bringing up the question, “Why do the Democrats keep bringing this up” when they don’t.
