Trump-Appointed Judge Tries To Keep Hearing In Major Abortion Pill Case Secret

Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk hasn’t shied from the spotlight in the few years since he was confirmed — after a few false starts — to the federal bench under then-President Donald Trump.

So the judge doesn’t want protesters outside of the federal courthouse while he considers a case that will affect half the US population?

To be fair, cowardice is an inherent aspect of conservatism (fascism).

A ruling this sweeping by an activist judge is going to awaken women in a way that even Roe vs. Wade reversal did not. This affects states where abortion is legal; it affects people with needs for this medicine beyond abortion. He’s going to both light the match and touch the fuse on this culture war issue.

I suspect he knows this, and isn’t sure how bad it will become.

The judge doesn’t want protesters for THIS case. You’d better believe he’s okay with those of his ploitical bent.

Hmmm…Anti Abortion lobby vs. Pharmaceutical Industry, in Texas.
Looks like a “Pick 'em” to me.

I have been waiting for the other shoe to drop on this ever since I first heard about it weeks ago - now I know why. The fact that this can even happen or is something to have to worry about shows how incredibly flawed and corrupted our system has become. Every day now in the world of Leonard Leo the laws drift further and further away from justice, and the pronouncement that something is legal or illegal has less and less to do with what is right.

Which is why the Republicans now want every single thing that pisses them off to end up in a court.

I’m sure if it’s more convenient, the protesters are willing to meet him at his home.

It would be a damned shame if he couldn’t dine out in public anymore.

It will never happen, but the answer is for women to do a Lysistrata movement. Until these religiofascists get a clue that women are not here to satisfy their need to be all powerful, they can fuck themselves for a while.

Resurrecting the Star Chamber?

I suspect that the Judge has decided that he has to rule for the defendant and keep MP on the market. The reason he is having a secret meeting is prevent the far right from freaking out on him.

The rightwing screeching about “activist judges” was all projection, as usual.

“I believe that, under the law today, the proper response is for the Food and Drug Administration to ignore a judicial decision like what’s being talked about,”

Judge Kacsmaryk will have to address that law in his ruling. Something about a regulatory agency overstepping its authority because the FDA Act does not specifically mention Mifepristone or abortion.

The irony and sheer chutzpah of this man and so many other clueless men making medical decisions that affect only women is enough to make me gag.

I’m almost too angry to respond coherently.
At least, in California, Gov Newsome has yanked Walgreen’s renewal contract statewide because they announced they would no longer be selling MP.

Walgreen’s are Quislings who can’t bear the heat coming from people holding signs. Gov Newsom seems to do the right thing about 99% of the time, and, really, it’s not difficult. It involves saying yes when crazies are screaming no. He also knows 2024 is not the year to run against Biden.

That was surely another point in favor of using this judge: a courtroom in Amarillo, Texas.

Half the population? You have heard, right, that it usually takes two?
