The last people I would trust on the topic of A.I. and its inherent dangers are the people who stand to profit from it.
There are those that say the government should manage all of A.I., but also acknowledge that a rogue government could do some real damage. Sounds to me like, especially with this current administration, government control is probably not a great idea.
But then you have Meta, which put social media into private hands, and how is that any better?

Yesterday, I tried to order a $15 toilet fill valve from Amazon with prime. The most routine order possible. Take a look at the fees they have added. I cancelled this and ordered from Lowes instead:

Texas Republicans, as Josh Kovensky saw during his trip, have leaned hard into demonizing both Muslim Texans and South Asian Texans, apparently calculating that doing so will help get xenophobes amped to vote in the midterms.
Trying to target Latino xenophobes in particular then.
A reminder that the same (55% majority) percentage of white voters voted for Trump in 2020 and 2024. The reason he won in 2024 (and not 2020) was because more minorities bought into the racism and sexism.

Let me tell you about those drivers.
I live in an apartment building. We have a delivery area where packages coming in have to be put in that area and the recipient notified. It’s a locker system, so people can’t steal packages.
The Amazon drivers routinely ignore this system. They put the boxes and package in the general mailbox room and maybe someone gets a notification.
They are under such pressure to get stuff done that they don’t have time to deal with these systems. The management has put a sign up, indicating that this system must be used. It’s not unusual over the weekend to find packages stacked up outside the door or lumped in the mailroom or the locker room on the floor in a pile.
No, I’m not adding a tip.

Despite being retired, I have one client for whom I perform occasional legal services. The president of this company is an Indiana rural small businessman. He’s a bright (and pleasant) guy. We have never talked politics.
On Saturday we were chatting about a legal issue. He started complaining about the astounding level of corruption he notices in the Trump “administration,” and said he can’t understand how every sentient person isn’t alarmed. I agreed while hiding my surprise as he vented about it.
This is a very conservative Indiana businessman, folks. I don’t know if this means a lot in a broader sense, but thought I’d pass it on.
