A couple of “lessons learned”, should Democratic leadership be capable of learning:
- DC statehood is a priority, not something to keep putting off.
- “watch what they do, not what they say”, as Richard Nixon noted so many years ago. And fer gawd’s sake, tell the voters.

Blocking D.C. from spending its own money, ratcheting up its unemployment numbers, forcing district leadership to enact mass hiring freezes and to indefinitely stop programs…

Time to board the ships and start throwing tea overboard. And why can’t the DC leadership put out a “Declaration of Independent Statehood” ? Parallel it, where it makes sense, with Tommy Jefferson’s, make sure it’s widely published and runs the gamut of the commentariat, and submit it as a petition to the (absent, absentee, absent-minded) Congress?

I recommend this, much like I’d rather see everyone referring to “Alligator Auschwitz”.
Either correct their cutesy phrases, or use them for your own purposes mockingly (see Gov Newsom). Do not show Trump or his followers the respect that they think they ought to get.

Miami-Dade County (70% Latino) was reliably Blue until the 2024 election when it flipped for the first time to vote for Trump. We can no longer take that demographic for granted.

Communications are key, and the Democrats just seem so lame, even lazy, certainly incompetent in general at communicating.
Every annoying email I get, and I fully grok their intent, but the pathetic messaging in those emails only drives home the point, that the Democratic party, let’s say, just doesn’t get it.
Firing a Fed Board member based on an allegation by a biased trump toadie, that is not cause and he has no basis to fire her, he can’t do whatever he wants but god forbid someone besides us palookas says that.
Invading Greenland is insane, that’s what Putin did, that’s what Hitler did. The U.S.A. does not invade one of our friends and allies because trump wants their land, yes yes, I know, Mexico, but we don’t do that anymore. Trump wants it because someone put the idea into his tiny little reptilian brain, but he can’t do that, and people need to tell him that, and they need to tell the Country, the American people, that trump is out of his ever lovin mind to think he can.

For some reason the party made no move to counter Republican Spanish language propaganda that started shifting voters in 2020. You’d expect a level of counter action, but Democrats seem to only focus on election year campaigns, as Republicans broadened their efforts nationally in 2024.

Definitely. Either it’s mealy-mouthed, don’t rock the boat or offend anybody platitudes, or it’s some kind of ivory tower lefty graduate colloquium word salad.
My preference? Today Trump [insert emotionally charged description of some illegal action]. That’s flat out illegal under our laws and Constitution. He doesn’t have that authority – and it’s not even in his job description. He’s out of control. He’s deranged and apparently demented, too. Why haven’t his Republicans done anything about it? We’ve got impeachment and we’ve got the 25th Amendment. Democrats are willing to help. Why are all the Republicans just sitting there with their eyes closed?
Or some similar rant. The operative part is, Trump has gone mad. He must be removed from office or otherwise neutralized.

One thing Dems need to learn is, they’re not all “Latinos” – or even worse, “Latin Exes”. Folks with ancestors who spoke Spanish may be Hispanics, Chicanos, Cubans, Puerto Ricans (aka “Americans”), even “Spanish.” And no doubt more. They’re as diverse as white people used to think they were. And the smart Democrats should know this.
