President Donald Trump conceded on Wednesday that he did purposefully downplay the COVID-19 in its early stages despite privately acknowledging it was “deadly stuff” — but he did it for you, America!
“We want to show confidence. We want to show strength. We want to show strength as a nation. And that’s what I’ve done,” he added. “And we’ve done very well.”
This is beyond delusional. This is insanity. It’s because he didn’t want to fight the pandemic. It’s because he wanted someone else to take the blame for it. It’s because he’s incompetent. It’s because he wants to be re-elected and wants everyone else to live his delusion. It’s because he’s a “fucking moron”.

Then why didn’t he order preparations? It’s not like you couldn’t have ordered prep, and then told people that you were doing it “just in case, but we’re not going to have to use this stuff.” No, he intentionally lied and refused to take action. That’s not just omission, but comission.

Trump argued his falsely rosy portrayal of the pandemic early in the year, during which he claimed COVID-19 was no more serious than the flu, was all about showing “leadership.”
Whether he’s lying about believing this or actually thinks this way, he’s a sick fuck.
And I, by the way, think he’s lying: putting children or young people where they can catch a disabling or deadly virus isn’t about leadership in anything but a complete lack of sensitivity.
He wanted to show confidence, and yet he’s all but silenced Dr. Fauci and Birx. He’s contradicted the scientists. He’s promoted lethal home remedies, and medicines that hadn’t been tested.
There is no PhD or MD behind Trump’s last name so no would expect him to lead on the science or medical fronts, but because his name is just plain Trump he tried to take the credit and lay the blame on others.

This won’t change anything for his base, they will gloss over the fact that he tried to downplay what was happening…they will actually defend it. He’s already trying to spin it as a good thing, they will swallow that completely.
I think everyone else will be really pissed off with a president who wasn’t honest about what was happening and ignored it or acted like it was no big deal for a very long time. I don’t think we will get away with the spin, and this will harden the idea that he’s not a good leader. The last thing he needs is to solidify the view that he doesn’t care about people, or to be on defense and scrambling to make excuses. Hopefully he continues to flail for the next eight weeks.
