Trump Admin’s Nationwide Gerrymandering Assault Faces Setbacks

President Trump’s pressure campaign to get red states across the country to redraw their congressional maps ahead of the 2026 midterms has hit a roadblock as various GOP-led redistricting efforts have either stalled or failed in recent days.  As it stands now, GOP-led states, including Texas, North Carolina and Missouri, have all all engaged in…

In addition, the Red states considering redistricting will have to take Tuesday’s election results into account. Typically, the plans involve taking a comfortably Repub district and moving part of those voters into a competitive Dem district, with the goal of tipping it Red. However, if there really is a Blue wave election next Fall, the Repubs run the risk that the old Red district will flip once these Repubs have been moved, and the old Blue district will remain Blue. Food for thought.

Here’s the answer to “What could possibly go wrong?”, the question that the Republicans apparently never asked.

We are still waiting on the court decision here in Texas. The 3 - judge panel in El Paso has not made a ruling as of yet which leaves a lot of uncertainty. The 9- day hearing revealed how much control the Trump R’s had in drawing the map.

The uncertainty of when the ruling will come down is effecting filing by some candidates.

Here in North Austin I am currently represented by Lloyd Doggett, based in Austin, who has been a target of gerrymandering for many years. Under the new map I will be represented by August Pfluger whose main office in Texas is in San Angelo - 3.5 hour drive from my house. The new map is below:

No matter what the judges decided the case will be appealed and primaries will likely be delayed.

The great irony we are all hoping for is the new Texas map is reversed and California gains new seats and Texas gains nothing.

Wishful thinking but ‘don’t stop believing.’

Typically, new congressional maps would be drawn after the Census in 20230…

Gosh! I hope that I’m still alive then.

I love the idea of the GQP hoist on their own petard by cracking D districts, with the new majority R districts, but now not quite so R, succumbing to Blue Wave. There are plenty of confirmed Republican voters who are stricken by so-called Trump Derangement Syndrome, more accurately referred to as placing country above party, preferring the creaky old U. S. Constitution to what is already quite visible in its place, abhorring the destruction of the the White House, or just gagging on all the spoon-fed BS.

I think such voters would be less likely to vote D than to stay home. Not a full-throated repudiation but perhaps good enough.
