This would be sheer vandalism, just pure hostility to this because it’s perceived as a liberal interest, even if he weren’t going around all the time bragging about our energy production.

Yeah vandalism is the right word. At least with pillaging the deplorables take something of value but these c*cksuckers are just gonna ruin stuff because they can from here on out.
I had been hoping that I was wrong about how stupid and nihilistic they are. I guess it’s going to boil down to are there any oil companies depraved and irresponsible enough to try to build a rig with all the melting arctic ice?
Sadly, I am not overly optimistic on the answer…

It’s not just the melting ice: the melting permafrost makes anything built atop it problematic.
As I recall, this was at least a contributing factor to an oil spill in Norilsk (from storage) in the last 6 months.

Isn’t demand for oil at an all-time low, with frackers going out of business and tankers full of oil anchored offshore for months, hoping there’s a place to unload it someday?

yes, but when you can buy an oil contract for pennies on the dollar, get a subsidy from the government to develop the land, keep any profits, write off the losses, and then walk away from the environmental damage that results - it’s a no brainier for the plutocrats and thieves.
Yes, and Alaska is not cheap or easy to operate in (just ask Shell, who ceased exploratory operations there after the Kulluk shitshow).

So Donald Trump’s younger brother just died a few days ago, he claims that Robert was his best friend. From the remorse he shows or the lack of it, I’d say he really doesn’t give a rip.
