Top European Union officials were apparently blindsided by President Donald Trump’s ban on incoming travel from Europe in a dubious attempt to stymie the COVID-19 outbreak, learning about it only through the President’s televised address on Wednesday night.
Of course he didn’t let them know in advance. The ban is a punishment for the Europeans for making Trump and US leadership look bad. Why would he give them input before rolling out the restrictions?
Well, is there anything Trump has not done that is not a threat to anyone, anywhere. He is trying to bring civilization to its knees. Very Steve Bannon of him.
It would be great if the EU simply announced they were unilaterally ignoring Trump’s order, and will continue to allow their citizens and carriers to travel to the U.S. Throw it back on the Trump Clown Show to deal with millions of travelers being blocked at all ports of entry.
Trump’s a fcuking moron. He’s both endangering American lives and endangering our closest alliances. What low scum he and his administration are.
Big Question: Why did the US turn down the offer of WHO’s coronavirus test kits? Which we’ve now learned are freely available in Australia among other countries. Was it because we had our own? Obviously not. Was it because we thought we could do better? Possibly. Or was it because we didn’t want to take help from the sort of international organization(that of course we set up) that Trump and his low foul brood oppose for “nationalist” ideological reasons? Likely! That is: The virus will have spread and impacted more lives and killed more Americans–because the Trumpscum don’t like cooperating with other countries.
By the way, can Discobot please enforce a distancing requirement in these threads? There should be at least 6 blank entries between every post – we can’t have virus carriers infecting others. And no new memberships for 2 weeks, especially from IP addresses outside the continental U.S.
This will be at least as effective in combating the coronavirus as anything Trump has done.
Here in Texas, they just cancelled the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in the middle of its run. That’s a HUGE deal. On top of the SXSW cancellation in Austin.
The wife’s travel plans this week just cancelled.
On the one hand - I’m reading the reports from folks who are finding out after the fact - they had it and recovered - “Don’t panic.” - and on the other hand looking at the death tolls from Asia. In terms of messaging - ‘Take sensible precautions, social distancing, curtail travel plans’ seems completely reasonable.
But the administration is lurching from one underreaction to ineffectual OVER reaction like a drunk driver who KNOWS he’s incapacitated - and is trying to get home.
Public policy weaving is going to push this country into the ditch.
