Trump Acquitted: Senate GOPers Give The Green Light For End-Of-Term Insurrections | Talking Points Memo

The Senate acquitted former President Trump for his role in the Jan. 6 insurrection against Congress, with only seven Senate Republicans joining 50 Democrats in favor of conviction — well short of the 67 vote threshold.

And the gutless Fks voted exactly as they said they would. No ‘open minds’ there. They are egregious.

That record cannot be altered or erased.

I know of 43 republicans who should be turned into dust and I am being nice.

you mean they didn’t even bother to debate the evidence?

and who was the seventh GOP vote to convict? (It was too depressing for me to watch after the 'we’re not defending democracy any longer than absolutely necessary" stipulation nonsense)

The 43 Republican Senators who backed Trump are a disgrace to this nation.

Seven Republicans voted based on the evidence. 43 Republicans voted because their base terrifies them.

while true, I don’t expect more of them.

my real disappointment is with the Democrats who folded – as if the defense of Democracy is only worth 5 days, and deserving of the expense of as little political capital as possible.

Plus side, Trump’s now on the ballot in 2022 and is the presumptive nominee in 2024.

The Republicans are going to be regretting not taking the chance to be done with him.

Is Burr retiring, and, if so, is anyone on NC making noises?

“Political capital” is such a fake thing in this day in the first place

Charlie Sykes got it right: The headlines ought to read 57 - 43.

This is damning enough. The 43 traitors will never escape the cold eye of history.

Shameful, disgraceful, deplorable. This is really a “hung jury” rather than an acquittal.

Actually it is satisfying that a bipartisan group of Senators voted for conviction. It gives me some hope going forward.

 yeah, if only they had just had a few more days of testimony, surely the Republicans would all have changed their minds.

So I just ate a delicious Perugina Baci; dark chocolate. The message inside is,

“If we dream alone, it’s only a dream. If we dream together, it becomes reality.”

Let’s dream that the Dems have an unknown plan and these past days were but a prelude to the demise of the Rump. Politically speaking, greater things could be in store. We know of some the civil cases.

Interesting their lord and savior will walk away and the acolytes will likely face prison time or a record that will dog them for the life. Neat deal.

He has said that he will not run again. What is puzzling is why Shelby and Portman voted not guilty. Shelby isn’t running for anything again -he’s in his 80’s.
