This will blow over. I think most Canadians are more puzzled than scandalized. But it’s a bit like ‘‘emails’’. Nobody knows what the fuss is actually about, but repeat it long enough, keep it in the headlines, somehow, and voters will start to doubt.

But a third image has surfaced of Trudeau wearing blackface since the TIME piece was published. Global News obtained a video that appears to show Trudeau wearing blackface makeup and sticking his tongue out. A senior Liberal Party official reportedly confirmed to Global News that the person in the video was Trudeau.

please let this be the last of em, please let this be the last of em, please let this be the…

When TIME asked if he thought the photo was racist, Trudeau said: “Yes it was. I didn’t consider it racist at the time, but now we know better.”

Shit, blackface was racist when Al Jolson was doing it. But certainly anybody doing it after the 60s was, not to put too fine a point on it, a racist.

Gosh, it just keeps getting worse. All I can do is sigh.

I suggest none of you American social justice warriors vote for him.

Political correctness run amok.

Sorry, guys, but insisting on seeing this through the American prism rather than the Canadian context where it occurred, 18 years ago, is silly and insulting. Trudeau apologized. His policies speak for themselves. The policies of his Cons adversaries (who coordinated and are trying to exploit the scoop) even more so. Now let’s get back to actual policy issues such as where the fuck is Doug Ford hiding?

Look, I understand partisanship colors our opinions here (hence your focus on the Cons when this is clearly an advantage to the NDP/Greens), but there’s very little denying that this could drive support towards one of the other parties.

You mentioned 2011 - aside from Layton’s undeniable pizzaz, the reason why support was driven towards the NDP was due to perceived weakness in the Liberal candidate, correct?

Not saying it’ll happen of course - Trudeau’s a survivor, clearly, and Layton was a pretty unique politician - but it does make the campaign a little more interesting. Up until now we were cruising towards some flavour of a Liberal government.

Yiiiiikes.

The Conservative vote is highly inefficient - mainly concentrated in the Prairies and rural Ontario. The Liberal vote is more evenly distributed, giving them a major advantage in seat-rich Ontario and Quebec.

Hard for me to say what people in BC think… I’m in Nova Scotia. Most of the continental US is closer to me haha.

This is obviously something he is deeply ashamed of and I’m sure Mr. Trudeau regrets every moment of these appearances. To his credit, he has apologized without reservations of any kind and it looks like he’ll take the heat coming his way and not try to deflect. How it impacts the upcoming election is anyone’s guess but I can’t see how it can help.

And he is absolutely correct, as is demonstrated by the sudden rise of the world’s largest oil producer - the USA. It is extraordinarily difficult to tell people “sorry, no job anymore!” and maintain the support of the population.

We are a democracy - if that resource (which is still being consumed in massive quantities the world over) was not exploited, we’d be running Conservative governments - and trust me, they are not fond of the carbon tax.

Is the Canadian right winger running more like trump or boris? Stepping back, looks like Canada is the only anchor to sanity in all of North & South America right now. Not my vote to make, but please take heed Canada…don’t do what we did.

Vlad would just love a hand picked puppet in Canada too, and don’t think he’s not working on that. There are plenty of Canadians, sadly, who are on Russia’s side so to speak, just like here.

Just be wise Canada, whatever that means in this situation.

I definitely think this has the potential to hurt him. If Quebec and Ontario continue to support him (37% Lib to 22% for Cons and 39% Lib to 33% Cons) though, I don’t see how the conservatives have any chance. Carrying the prairies isn’t gonna put them over.

Edit to correct my apparent lack of mastery irt Canadian geography.
