Former Maine Senate President Troy Jackson is on track to become the official Democratic Senate nominee as the Saturday convention will cap a surprisingly smooth process to replace Graham Platner. A fifth-generation logger, Jackson’s deep labor ties and union support helped him dominate the delegate nominating contests. His performance was so impressive that the other…
Well at least Troy Jackson has experience and knows the playing field.
What a difference shifting a couple of words around makes, the difference between “knows the playing field” and “knows playing the field”.
Why, exactly, is it ‘surprising’ that the process was smooth? The Maine Democratic Party had plenty of time to figure out how they were doing things, and almost a week of ‘oh god, will he drop out in time?’ to line up candidates and get those candidates to sort themselves out, since they’d all had recently-active campaign operations in the field.
Can we please not ‘Dems in Disarray’ ourselves?
“He’s not a gifted public speaker, and his recent debate performance was wooden and awkward.”
I mean, okay, fine. But have you heard Susan Collins lately?!? It’s not her fault she’s old, but she’s in danger of being outrun by a fencepost.
But Troy threw a bottle of water against a wall just last week. It might have even been full!
All I see are anger issues!
Must be AI. Collins never once mentioned her concern about anything, and we know that she’s concerned about something 24/7. It just can’t be her, can it?
Yep. This is my biggest problem with her. She has been bamboozling Maine voters for 30 fucking years out of “concern” for their well-being.
Btw, just curious but does she have children because I’ve never seen anything in her bio that says she does?
Yes, you’ve a gift for only ever seeing those.
"Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice, shame on me.
Fool me three times, you must be Susan Collins."
– Stephen King
I think she was also one of the last holdouts to change her mind and vote for the shitty tax bill (the one with carve-outs for real state developers) the Dotard signed in his first term.
That is some strong messaging from Jackson. Excellent. More please.
The Maine party knew they damn well couldnt just pick someone.
They all took great pains to acknowledge the direction Platner voters chose in June.
This all played well for Jackson.
He also was seemingly the most organized.
I don’t know much about him but anything or rather any Democratic candidate at this point is better than Collins.
Polling shows by 10% Mainers prefer a Democratic Senate.
Jackson will be on the Democratic line.
They’re going to invade Cuba for sure. They’re using it as the fulcrum for a full-on Red Scare crackdown on anyone and anything “leftist” and as the connective tissue for claiming any free speech they don’t like is a communist threat. This document is batshit nonsense, relitigates the entire 1960s and purports to draw a line from Cuba to the entirety of the civil rights movement to things like Code Pink and the Amazon
If you are not terrified, you are not paying attention. This is a big part of the blueprint. The entire 1960s and everything that followed were a communist plot…totally illegitimate and really nothing but an attempt to overthrow our government and destroy the Constitution and replace American society with a communist dictatorship. It lays the groundwork for everything from dismantling legitimate free speech organizations to engaging in a nationwide circus of show trials to claiming citizenship is revocable at will to declaring elections so “infiltrated” as it to be necessary that they be “paused until we can be sure”. All because “communism.”
It is poorly and barely sourced, written in the language of agit-propaganda, contains clear and glaring historical errors, omissions and cherry-picking, is unabashedly sneering, biased and and a seething screed of long-standing generational resentments designed to weave a narrative of an America on the brink of catastrophic collapse and facing a dire, immediate emergency that necessitates and justifies a police state purge of society and suspension of rights.
You will be treated to the Weather Underground, Shakur, Malcolm X, Black Panthers, BLM and George Floyd, unions (Amazon’s specifically in case you’re wondering why Bezos the KKKlown is so thrilled with this regime), Code Pink, Russia, China, Iran, all of academia, Dem donors, etc. all blenderized into a soup of ahistorical, superficial fear-mongering, demagoguery and wild-eyed conspiracy nonsense…and all somehow INTERCONNECTED as a vast, decades-long plot of communist, Marxist networks and influence campaigns infiltrating the highest levels of American governance, society, culture and corporate power in order to overthrow the Constitution.
This author has it correct and anyone who downplays what they are clearly planning to escalate to…no doubt all of this being part of Project 2025’s script…is a fool.
As you note in the column, “his recent debate performance was wooden and awkward.” But the Senate debate (if one happens) will be Troy Jackson with Susan Collins. The charisma measure will be decidedly different.
Tim Snyder’s second lecture in his free 10 part series dealing with authoritarianism is 90 minutes worth attending to. He suggests that an empire has subjects, while a democracy has citizens. The democracy we inherited from ancient Greece allows “citizens” to colonize non-citizens. So the question of who is a citizen is crucial. He also describes communism as a rational system (reason, whether substantial or ephemeral) is used to justify; whereas fascism is deliberately irrational, forced domination the only value. So, who is a citizen of the U.S. currently? What is the point of mocking the irrationality of the GOP and the current administration, since that behavior is on their part deliberate, and is amplified by real world use of force against anyone who is a noncitizen, or is labeled as enemy? What is the point of mocking a tactic they deliberately do not employ? I guess, for myself, it momentarly feels good. But does it counter their strategy effectively?
See that ‘forced domination’ bit?
Mockery denies them the dominion they are so desperate to achieve. Unless you plan to go to war against them in a very literal way, it’s what you’ve got.
