The Treasury Department is now investigating whether the taxpayer money Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) spent to fly Venezuelan migrants to Martha’s Vineyard for political theater last month came from federal COVID-19 relief.
Well, it wasn’t like the Florida Gov. was going to use those COVID-19 relief funds for COVID-19 relief… A bucket of $$ is a terrible thing to waste – or, like Dan Quayle said:
“What a waste it is to lose one’s money. Or not to use money in your pocket is being very wasteful. How true that is.” (forgive my liberties with stupid men’s quotes…)
When the Florida Surgeon General thinks vaccines are dangerous and masks don’t work, it’s probably time for the feds to figure out exactly what the Florida state government is doing with the Covid funds allocated to them. And if they’re wasting or abusing those funds, time to claw them back.
Thanks-- but I’ll say plenty of women say plenty of stupid things during their lifetimes, too. (Myself included…) Just a lot of it was not as a public servant…
Ron DeSatan is guilty of theft of public resources, and of criminal interference with the laws and freedoms of the people he claims to “lead.” He is no different from Trump, and he deserves to indicted, tried, an jailed.
Three stages of repubs’ growth: roaring about spending Fed money for things not related to their state, demanding Fed money for their state in a crisis, ultimately groveling for Fed money for their state.
[An investigation into possible Unlawful Restraint] has a few different implications. One, obviously, is that increases the vulnerability – criminal and political – of those who ran the operation from Perla all the way up to Ron. It also allows the migrants to apply for something called a U Visa, which is for people who’ve been victims of crimes or witnesses to crimes.
It would be quite ironic if DeSantis’ stunt ended up helping to secure asylum seekers’ right to remain in the country…
Wouldn’t that just be perfect. TODAY he is ‘rewarding’ first responders with taxpayer dollars. I’m not so opposed to that LATER but right now, we need to fix Florida.
Just when we thought SCOTUS or at least six of them couldn’t be owned more completely by trumpet. I love the sound of “Stinging rebuke” in the early afternoon.
Federal appropriations for disaster tend to have fewer strings attached than for many other purposes, but these funds aren’t just a slush fund that a governor can use at a whim. It will be interesting to see how well Florida kept track of how funds were used. It’ll also be interesting to see if there were abuses, who takes the blame.
My guess. De Santis saw the money, got his opportunity, and said “get it done.” And, he knew full well that, at worst, a subordinate would take whatever heat might get brought later. “. . . Mistakes were made . . . “
