As the treasurer for George Santos’ campaign and two of his political committees, Nancy Marks is a central figure in the various investigations into his wildly irregular campaign finances. And according to a new report from the New York Times,…
When I would drive through that district I would see the Zeldin Santos signs paired together as if the campaigns were obviously coordinated. There needs to be an audit of both of them.
“Marks wrote in a September 2020 Facebook post about her campaign to be a trustee of Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Library in Long Island.” So Shirley she can’t be serious?
These are the type of idiots that think because banks track $10,000 transactions, that banks would never notice their clever ruse of only transferring $9999.99 at a time…
It’s detailed in the Times story. Basically, they allegedly offered a quid pro quo deal to get a would-be candidate onto the ballot on the Conservative Party line. Marks denied any wrongdoing. Ballot access is a big deal! This sort of scheme has a rich history in NY including the 2013 steakhouse plot that involved two of my favorite local characters; angry Odinist ex-Councilman Dan Halloran and State Senator Malcolm Smith who wore three piece suits and once had a press conference denouncing Lil Wayne that was the (unintentionally) funniest event I ever attended. Both Halloran and Smith did some time and are out now. I’m Facebook friends with Halloran. He’s enjoying a new life as a SCUBA instructor. https://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/03/nyregion/state-senator-and-city-councilman-accused-of-trying-to-rig-mayors-race.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare
I think the missing context is that in NY candidates can be listed on the ballot more than once. Each party meeting official criteria gets a “line” on the ballot to list their candidate - and they don’t have to propose a unique candidate. Being listed multiple times is of obvious benefit to candidates.
It also seems to function as a sort of super endorsement that voters get to see right in the voting booth.
ETA: party names like “working families” “freedom party” “constitution party” etc can remind/persuade low-info voters what a candidate stands for even if they’ve never heard of the candidate or the party
I’m telling you right now: Rudy’s ex-FBI buddies are part of this, in on it and using their expertise to do shit like this…planting shit on laptops, hacking at voting systems, etc. Same people who created that fake website to threaten Comey into making that fateful pre-election statement about re-opening investigation into Clinton.
