November 5: U.S. Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan allegedly opens fire at Fort Hood military base in Texas, killing 13 and wounding 30. Hasan, an army psychiatrist about to be deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan, is shot four times. According to witnesses, Hasan shouted “Allahu Akbar!” before opening fire, and is currently in custody in stable condition.
