Totally agree on Circe. It’s an amazing work of fiction, and even if you’re not up on your Greek myths, you’ll get re-educated and see them from a very different point of view. Tremendous fun.
Haynes’ *A Thousand Ships * is a good read and an even better listen. Haynes narrates herself and I heard the heartbreak in the Trojan voices as well as the comedy in the scene with the goddesses.
I agree. I typically don’t listen to novels on audio, but this really worked. I’m also enjoying Haynes’ new book, Pandora’s Jar. It’s worth a read.
I’m not a big audiobook person - I tend to get distracted - but maybe I’ll give it a shot with her new book when it comes out later this year!
Thanks for these recommendations. I’ll check out some, if not all, of these books. I see a trip to a bookstore in my near future - as near as my commute home from work today!
I use audiobooks for long car drives or exercise. I, too, get distracted, so if I listen to a book that turns out to be significant to me in some way (i.e., not just for distracting me from my sweating) I usually get a print or e-copy so I can read as well. I definitely wouldn’t use an audiobook for something I need to reference later.
