Top GOP Lawyer: Trump Linking SCOTUS Battle To Reelection ‘Poses Problems’ For GOP Sens

As President Donald Trump openly banks on a conservative Supreme Court majority to carry him through the election, high-profile conservative attorney Ben Ginsberg is warning Republican senators that Trump’s rhetoric could complicate their efforts to fast-track a SCOTUS nomination.

Trump’s persistent effort to delegitimize the upcoming elections “threatens the party that he heads, both now and in the longer term.”

But Ben, I thought that was a good thing.

I’ve not seen this message out there yet. The Courts that review any post-election ballot and fraud claims need to realize something. Should Trump manage to win through some legal shenanigans… in a second term NO COURTS will get in his way.

Trump will either dismantle the Courts, or deride them to the point of uselessness. It’s not the reputation of the Courts on the line… it’s their LIVES at risk. The Courts need to be afraid of Donald Trump as much as the rest of us. Whether they are ‘liberal’, neutral, or ‘conservative’.

No it doesn’t. Senate GOPers abandoned any principles around democracy years ago. Everything they do is hypocritical and corrupt. They sell out principles for a sound byte all the time, you think they’re going to waiver on selling out the country when a SCOTUS seat is on the line?

“Post deleted.”

“They can regain some credibility by exerting their leverage over timing and insisting that the President commit to a peaceful transfer of power if he loses,” the attorney wrote.

They no longer have that leverage.

If they even thought about doing that, only the safest senators (Cotton, Sasse and McConnell, maybe a few others) would have easy re-elections.

“Trump has argued that confirming a new justice is ‘very important’ to winning any post-election cases. This casts aspersions on the justices’ independence and makes confirming Judge Amy Coney Barrett a cornerstone of Trump’s election chaos strategy.”

I’d love to see every Dem between now and Election Day hammer Handmaid Amy to recuse herself.

Relentlessly, day in and day out.

(While reminding voters the GOP had absolutely no problem with only 8 justices for the 2016 election.)

Of course, she never will.

But the political damage for down-ballot Republicans would be baked in, regardless.

Hard to believe anyone can write such naive op-eds anymore. This reads more like an attempt to launder his own past.

“This casts aspersions on the justices’ independence…”

Is there any doubt in anyone’s mind that Trump forced Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and now Barrett to pledge personal loyalty to him over the Constitution as a precondition for their appointments?

The notion of anyone exerting any leverage over an enraged, insane Turnip is like bait-fishing in a bathtub. Enjoy your catch!

If this particular snapshot of things (as projected as of today) were to come true - the Supreme Court would not likely need to be involved

These guys are absolutely right in 1992. But the Republican 1000 year Reich of 2020 have no such compunctions.

How many times do they have to show people that they just don’t care?

Yeah and I don’t think the SCOTUS is going to get involved because I don’t think it will be needed to decide anything.

Trying to say ballots are a disgrace and fake is going to hurt all those absentee ballots that were voted by GOP voters. Any election that is questioned means the whole fucking thing is questioned. IT puts the GOP in as much jeopardy as it does the Democrats and considering how the polling is going it puts them in way more jeopardy.

“First they came for the traffic court judges, and I didn’t say anything because I wasn’t a traffic court judge. Then they came for the circuit court judges and I didn’t say anything because…”

If that particular snapshot came true, we could have thirteen justices involved in the 2022 election.

The Repub Senate does not care how bad they look, or what the majority of Americans think, they want to win no matter the the cost.

The President’s comments “poses problems” for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and GOP incumbents fighting to keep their seats, and also “tarnishes Republican senators’ reasoning” for ramming through a confirmation before the elections, Ginsberg argued.

LOLOLOL No, really…stop. Their “reasoning” now, as it was 4 years ago is nothing more than BS. The lower courts have been stacked and now the ultimate prize of altering the Supreme Court for at least a generation (unless the Dems get some backbone and add Justices and 2 new states) is in sight. Anyone that loses re-election will be taken care of by the Koch’s and the rest of the Republican money machine.

There is nothing left of any integrity to “tarnish.”
