They are. That is why they opposed the bill, there is nothing to hold the WH accountable on how to spend the money. That is the issue from how I read it.
What Iād like to know is WTF happened to Speaker Pelosi? She is one of the most effective Speakers of all time and used to be courageous in her fights with the right wing. Now she seems to be aiming her fire more at her own left flank while shying away from confrontation. Does she really believe that the country wants a go-along-get-along leader? Pelosi is bailing on impeachment, bailing on pushing oversight with wet noodle, slow walked subpoenas, and bailing on the children kidnapped from their parents and held in concentration camps.
I supported her for Speaker because I believed that she would be a strong, experienced presence who would get things done like she did with the ACA. I donāt know if sheās lost her nerve or her energy or exactly what, but she has been a huge disappointment this time around. Democratic gains in 2020 will have to be achieved in spite of her instead of because of her unless she snaps out of it quickly. Either way, if we hold the House in 2020 it will be time for her to go.
But the money people like it and keep giving her and Biden supportā¦ must take care of the .01%, fuck kids, fuck The Nation.
After a twitter spat earlier, it seems that Pelosi is really pissed with the liberals.
Yes, letās start depressing our base now so we can disappoint them again later.
There is a surprising amount of misogyny even here. Not sure why Iām shocked, really. Merka.
Why would they want to beat fellow Democrats in the House. An whatās the senate got to do with anything in this specific moment. Funding for anything starts in the House, and some principles new members are saying no to that for now.
We will have no fact checking here! It would deny the people who hate The Speaker the chance to belittle, disparage and in general show their misogyny.
That series of articles are very sloppy and made it easy for you to conflate two votes: the vote on the initial house version (which was much better than the Senate bill) on June 25 and the later House vote on a version of the Senate bill on June 27.
I kept searching because it struck me as wildly improbable both on the grounds of competence and honesty that Pelosi would not be accurate about a vote.
It turns out, that even the first bill which as designed by the Demicratc with some hope that it would pass was not good enough for the four and they were in fact the only four Democrats to vote against it.
It was the second vote on the House version of the Senate bill where 95 Democrats voted against.
Here is CNBC on the first bill: https://www.cnbc.com/2019/06/25/house-passes-emergency-border-bill-amid-concerns-about-migrant-children.html
Pelosi saw no way of getting help to the children quickly unless they acceded to the Senate version.
You needed to do better fact checking of your own rather than assuming idiocy on the part of the Speaker. You owe her an apology
It would be nice if there was more specificity. āI was before it before I was against itā is the stupid procedural crap that nobody but a pedant would know of outside DC.
It looks on itās face that Pelosi is misrepresenting the actual vote tally and attacking the liberal members of her caucusā¦ and she is for no goddamn reason.
That is pure BS. I understand Pelosi is your Congresswoman, that is your choice. But I also know that you also appose other Democrats and freely write about them on these bolgs. I am doing the same, you just do not like my dislike for Pelosi along with Schummer, and Biden.
The leadership is weak and ineffective period.
As it turns out she didnt press the bill that the house passed, to the Senate. If you read the report from the NyTimes that was sited in your link. She was being asked about caving to the Senate on the house bill, she elected to throw the blame on the four of them. Never mind that it did pass the house.
She also claimed she had a promise from Pence that the money would be spent as properly or as intended.
That took real spine, I am sure.
Iāve sent each of them as much as is possible for their 2020 primary campaigns.
Iāve also just sent something to the House Democrats who voted for the bill, including Pelosi ā but it was not a campaign contribution in the ordinary sense of the term.
I take your point but I think itās worth recalling that the Democratic House under Pelosiās previous Speakership (2007-2011) did not always courageously oppose the Republicans, either.
Itās easy to forget (or tempting to ignore) this fact in the era of Trump and McConnell.
Pelosi misrepresented nothing. She was misrepresented here both in the article and on the boards.
If you google you can find descriptions of the strategy discussions that were held before the first vote. Pelosi wanted to present a united front. She didnāt get it.
Acknowledge your error. Pelosi was honest and truthful on pointing out that the four voted alone when they voted on the first bill.
I am agnostic as to whether Pelosi is correct that the additional force of voting as a bloc was more important or whether the four of them voting against the better bill would either educate the public or make the public less likely to vote Republican.
Pelosi was not at all interested in making a political point by pushing the better bill with no hope of becoming law if at least some help could be sent to the children faster if the Senate bill was passed. YMMV The Republicans have been trying to sell their voters on the idea that the mess at the border is because the Democrats wonāt cooperate. Well, we cooperatedā¦further results are on the Republicans.
If youāre asking why four first-term House members arenāt challenging ā10 or so Republican Senators,ā well, doesnāt the question answer itself?
Plus you may not have noticed what states the four women are from. (Hint: The total number of Republican Senators from their four states currently stands at ā¦ zero.)
As I read it she house passed two bills and she didnt press either of them in the Senate. She blamed those four, and others complained that they could have debated for another day, but Pelosi said no.
End of story.
There is no frigging guarantee that any of that money will go to help the children, she has a promise from Pence that is it. Worthless promise. You havent learned this by now? Have you trusted Trump, his administration, or the GOP these last two and half years? Has Pelosi not learned?
