Timeline: The Mar-a-Lago Scandal From Start To Raid - TPM – Talking Points Memo

The scandal that erupted in August over former President Trump taking, secreting, and refusing to hand Presidential and classified records back to the government was based in a dispute that had been ongoing since he left office.

Frist.

Two other important timeline dates:

January 20, 2017 and January 6, 2021.

IF there were any Trump-exculpatory or Deep State-incriminatory records about the Trump-Russia investigation, wouldn’t they have been leaked by now?!?

Yes, but I suppose the follow-up question would be ‘to whom?’.

Some have said TFG’s holding on to this stuff to ‘make deals’ (bribery and ‘persuasion’, by any other name) to get what he wants, long-term - which, I suppose, is back in the WH, which isn’t gonna happen.

I can’t remember. Was it ever revealed that the Kim letters were among those items retrieved by the Feds from Trump or are these among those still missing? I can’t imagine Trump giving these up without first sequestering them somewhere special, like his property in Scotland, and then just flat out refusing to obey a legal order – mine, mine, mine!

Yup: Trump papers including Kim ‘love letters’ retrieved from Mar-a-Lago | Donald Trump | The Guardian

Shorter story:
As an out of office former federal employee trump took government owned documents to Mar-a-Lago. Some are classified. When asked repeatedly, he refused to return the material. Taken together trump has broken several laws and should be held to account as any other person would be.

May 2021

National Archives attorney Gary Stern contacts Trump attorneys Patrick Philbin, Mike Purpura, and Alex Cannon, asking about missing documents that should have been turned over to the archives as Trump left office. Stern mentions that correspondence between Trump and Kim Jong-Un is among the records that have not been returned

December 2021

Trump advisors first tell NARA that they have identified specific records that are being held in Mar-a-Lago.

Did it really take 7 months, assuming this timeline is accurate, for Trump advisors to respond to NARA’s concerns about missing documents? I know all the participants lead busy lives, but seems unresponsive to me.

Thanks. I’m surprised he gave those up without much of a fight.

The National Archives says that it’s received records that were “torn up by former President Trump,” and that while records management officials had taped up some of the materials, others had not been reconstructed.

Wow. Talk about a nasty breakup. This does seem like the kind of thing an -ex would do, though you’d expect more dignity from an ex-President. I wonder if he sent them any boiled rabbits too.

Here is a fun list of people who stole NARA documents. All but one of the defendants were sentenced to federal prison. However, none had access to or stole CLASSIFIED files.

I’m surprised they weren’t framed and put on display at Mar-a-Lardo or Bedminster as soon as he left office.

Gotta say…if someone read me this timeline and nothing else, I’d already be ready to cast my vote as guilty.

He clearly tried delay as a tactic, twice in regards to the FBI having access to the 15 boxes, then again regarding the MaL subpoena. And moving the boxes to his personal residence after receiving the subpoena is just a dead giveaway for mens rea and defiance of a grand jury subpoena.

The timeline also makes Kash Patel’s sudden raising of the declassification issue seem like a Hail Mary attempt to make something stick.

Would YOU trust this guy to carefully keep highly classified documents in your humble abode?

Now the question is, will the 11th circuit come through for DoJ again? Because it’s quite clear that Judge Cannon gave undue and errant deferrence to the prevaricating Trump and his lolyers.

Fox News, OAN, Newsmax, Rudy, Durham, Truth Social, Breitbart, Hannity, etc. seem like the usual suspects. They surely would have run with anything that would even hint at making Trump’s case about the Trump-Russia “hoax”. There’s no lack of amplifiers and broadcasters of this kind of nonsense.

I’m not as convinced that those missing documents were given to domestic terrorists. I’m thinking outside the box/borders.
