In answer to the question that was not asked: Yes, they really do think we are that dumb.

Metastatic capitalism is killing us all. The GOP death cult is calling for human sacrifice to the economy - rich people need to have people risk dying in order to keep piling up more money for them.

“I think during his State of the Union speech, when he was talking about the great American comeback, he was talking foreshadowing the necessity of a v-shaped recovery coming out of this virus before we even knew about a virus,” Scott said. “So it’s really important for us to get back to work.”

First of all, there’s not going to be a v-shaped recovery, as any opening would be gradual and hesitant. The recovery, by necessity, will be lengthy and drawn-out.

And if Trump was indeed “foreshadowing” the pandemic and the recovery in its aftermath during his SOTU on February 4, why the hell did he not do anything that entire month?

If there was any foreshadowing at all, it was Speaker Pelosi ripping up his speech to portend his disgraceful non-response to a deadly pandemic.

And what about the testing and contact tracing, Senator? When will the guy you’re defending do his damn job?

Scott went on to say that the President “has got to balance living and livelihood” because poverty has “a negative consequence that lingers for decades if not generations.” “He is understandably concerned not simply about our health — he’s done a great job of trying to balance that — but he’s also concerned about the economic health of this nation,” Scott said. “We both know that poverty kills, and so what he’s trying to do is to position this economy to come back with a vengeance.”

Scott then off-handedly theorized that Trump foreshadowed the pandemic during his State of the Union speech.

If you squint, you can maybe imagine that Tim Scott isn’t a complete moron – or lickspittle.

The only time Trump uses the word “comeback” is in the very first sentence of the STOU. He doesn’t talk about a V-shape. Sounds like everything is going up!

Three years ago, we launched the great American comeback. Tonight, I stand before you to share the incredible results. Jobs are booming, incomes are soaring, poverty is plummeting, crime is falling, confidence is surging, and our country is thriving and highly respected again. (Applause.) America’s enemies are on the run, America’s fortunes are on the rise, and America’s future is blazing bright.

The years of economic decay are over. (Applause.) The days of our country being used, taken advantage of, and even scorned by other nations are long behind us. (Applause.) Gone, too, are the broken promises, jobless recoveries, tired platitudes and constant excuses for the depletion of American wealth, power and prestige.

He only gives three sentences to the virus.

Protecting Americans’ health also means fighting infectious diseases. We are coordinating with the Chinese government and working closely together on the coronavirus outbreak in China. My administration will take all necessary steps to safeguard our citizens from this threat.

What was that about broken promises? Scott is in the Dear Leader mode.

First Mike Dense says Trump’s incitations to insurrection were really encouragements to open the country safely and responsibly.
Then, Tim Scott, asking Mike to hold his beer, claims Trump prophesied his own epic fuck-up in SOTU.

Sports fans, Rs are setting multiple new world records for stupid here in a single day.

You know what keeps people stuck in poverty for generations Senator?
The color of someone’s skin.
The sex organs of a person, especial if they sit down to pee.
The re-fighting battles that all men are created equal.
The lack of investment in POC, women, lack of public services, and especially tax cuts to the wealthy and big business.

Wow. That first paragraph of Trump’s speech sounds an awful lot like the Greek Gods giving someone just enough rope to hang themselves. He’s been laid low with only his lies and his supporters’ idiocy protecting him. For now.

Well, Tim, he might have inadvertently let it slip that in fact he had known since he was briefed in November that it was coming.

This is like fitting the small bowling bag over the large bowling ball. Lots of stretching.

You might also add medical bills and funeral costs which they will be getting a lot of as the beaches reopen…
Oh and climate change as I just saw a report the severe weather is expected in the southern states again this Sunday

Great analogy. And there is something Oedipal going on in the family.

It’s despicable for him to compare the effects of an acute crisis like a pandemic with a chronic, generational problem Republicans haven’t given a damn about like poverty.

Remind me again, Senator, where the Republicans stand on the ACA, Medicaid, unemployment benefits, food stamps, minimum wage, tax cuts, social security? That’s right. On the wrong side of every issue when it comes to poverty. You can shove your disingenuous bullshit.
