Rethuglicans in disarray? Can’t be.

Cancel Culture you called ?One idiot trying to defend another idiot.

"“The hypocrisy of those trying to cancel Ted Cruz who have been totally silent on their Democrat Governor’s incompetence is telling.”

I hear Senator Thune will be taking his comedy act on the road.

First stop, Boss’ Comedy Club, Pizza & Chicken, in Sioux Falls.

Thanks for this. Jingo-ism can be really harmful. When the Tea Party came on the scene and people started using terms** like “bailouts” and “astro-turfing”, a number of individuals did not interpret these terms correctly.

And I suspect that this was the plan

** (1) Some bailouts helped people, even Tea Baggers
(2) “Astro-turf” was clever, but it obscured the concentrated efforts by people like Dick Armey to artificially generate more enthusiasts for the Tea Party

Don’t waste your otherwise estimable language policing efforts on “cancel culture” because I think that phrase will have a very short half-life.

It was first used by young people on social media, and it’s being picked up by oldster GOP politicians because they think it makes them look hip. (insert that image of Steve Buscemi with the skateboard). Which means the kids will stop using it in social media and it will fade away. Give it a year and nobody will be using it because it’s so stupid and meaningless.

I can’t wait for the rococo, when the reactionaries smother each other in decorative allegations.

Somehow the term always makes me think of Boy George.

I’m laughing over the “otherwise estimable.” Story of my life. While hastening to add that “cancel culture” as a thing is awesome, we both seem to think it’s really clunky as a term and probably is on the marked-down shelf of language as we speak. I love how the GOP seized on it because to them it means, “Don’t criticize me as a throwback because I am one and I don’t want to be criticized who does?” and so forth. You’re bummed because your pals are getting in trouble for abusing women and being racist dicks and so forth? Your heart bleeds for the Confederate flags and equestrian statues? Seriously I think it might be halfway or more a self-own. This desperate culture-wars stuff gets thinner and thinner all the time, I think. Cultures change because powerful, tectonic forces make them change, and standing against that isn’t terribly sustainable.

Despite unrebutted clear evidence of Trump’s guilt, Thune voted to acquit.

Thune should resign in shame.

It was unconstitutional as McConnell said. Sure he was guilty but Trump got off on a technicality. It’s actually a sweet explanation. It’s everything to everybody. Perfect, I feel strongly both ways!

So “cancel culture” is the latest catchphrase for the small brains to latch onto?

One of those comments is spot on, well, all of them were pretty much, but the one of Trump denying California Wildfire relief aid one way or another versus the Biden Federal Government not even having it occur to do the same to Texas and the rest of the impacted states, maybe TPM could do an article to discuss that please.

More of this, please:

He will change the letter after his name from an R to and I and that’s it. He’ll still have an R brain and an R ideology.

By the way, I knew that McConnell would not take the bait when Trump lambasted him a few days ago.

As did most of us on TPM.

Of course…BUT I have hopes for the Grand Old Parting (of ways)

How bizarre. The article I see on TPM is significantly different from the article which showed up in my RSS feed. Same topic, but significant difference in content. Does TPM rotate different versions throughout the day, or just a rewrite because they didn’t like the first one?

Anywho, I came to comment on this quote which I swear is not a figment of my imagination (from the RSS version):

On Thursday, Thune further swatted down Trump’s claim of voter fraud.

“You’ve got to face the music, and at some point, it’s got to be over and you’ve got to move on,” he said, adding, “I think it’s just important to tell people the truth. The most important responsibility of any leader is to define reality.”

Do we:

A) Give Thune the benefit of the doubt and presume he meant “accept reality”
B) Assume he is saying the quiet part out loud

I lean B.

I’m pretty sure most of these professional bloviators will go back to talking really loud and refusing to let others get a word in, table pounding and man-splaining without feeling a need to give it a clever “I’m the victim here” term soon enough.
