The Jan. 6 select committee on Tuesday informed former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows’ lawyer that it has been “left with no choice” but to advance contempt proceedings against his client, after the panel warned that the former Trump official would be referred for contempt if he failed to show up for his deposition.
Thompson, in his letter, is not pleased with Meadows’ decision to go back to stonewalling the committee after he had begun engaging with the committee late last month.
Next headline: “Stonewalling Meadows!”
Doesn’t sound to environmentally friendly.
Prior to December 2018, Meadows claimed to have received a Bachelor of Arts degree.[9] When questions about his credentials arose during media speculation that he was under consideration to serve as White House chief of staff, Meadows amended his official House biography and other sources to indicate that his degree was an associate, not a bachelor’s.[9]
Check, double check, and triple check the metadata on what’s been provided because we don’t need another Dan Rather-like scandal where the committee relies on what’s been provided only to find that it’s inaccurate. Don’t put it past any of these crooks to try to delegitimize the committee and its findings.
The lawmaker, Thompson said, acknowledged that doing so would be “highly controversial” — to which Meadows allegedly replied “I love it.”
Well, sure. I mean, who among us hasn’t expressed a love for subverting the will of the voters and destroying the world’s oldest democracy?
Psssst, Markie, pro tip: After you’ve handed over damning evidence against yourself, it is not a good idea to un-flip. You get all of the risk with none of the benefit.
