My spouse found the same mentality was prominent in the military as well.
I don’t do immigration law, but it appears that he can be held in custody until the end of DHS’s appeal to the Board of Immigration Appeals.
ICE: Insolent Criminal Enforcers
The whole damn agency needs to be dissolved and a successor created that carries over exactly none of the current goons.
I see Steven Miller’s grimy fingerprints all over this. He is one sick puppy.
Electeds last, because they’re just a bunch of attention seekers looking to move up to greener pastures and are to be tolerated and worked around by the professionals who know what they are doing.
In general, for the most part. We used to have a fully functioning government that did a fairly decent job given their political bosses.
Now we have a bunch of assholes dismembering our government and our country like 6 year old torturing insects.
Why, I just haven’t heard any answers that make much sense. Saruman in the Shire is the best I got.
The Ukranians and the US military have been doing a great job attacking deep inside Russia in the last few weeks. There have been decisive attacks with military success all across Russia.
The only path to a lasting peace is through a decisive military defeat of Russia and Pootie Patootie’s warmongering agenda. I hope the US military can pull off the equivalent of the Russian humiliation in Afghanistan.
Another Heroic Russian - and I mean that.
Great article, @josh_kovensky
KENNEDY: If Vietnam came to you and said, 'You win. We’re gonna remove all tariffs and all trade barriers. Would the US please do the same?" Would you accept that deal?
LUTNICK: Absolutely not. That would be the silliest thing we could do
KENNEDY: What’s the purpose of reciprocity then?
Howard Lutnick continues to play this used-car salesman pitchbot role for Trump, spouting or defending economically indefensible positions. So what’s going on? Former Democrat and charity sponsor Lutnick has a BA in economics and ran the investment bank Cantor Fitzgerald, giving him extensive experience in public and private equity, bond, and real estate markets. Is Team Trump out to do as much damage as possible to the US economy? Aside from an intent to transform the US into a full-on wartime economy footing, none of Lutnick’s talking points about “on-shoring” little-screw businesses to Make America Great Again makes any sense. Are we all going to be planning drone swarms for our AI masters in the future? In any case, the early data about US trade policy uncertainty suggest Trump’s policies (as of this week, at least) will hurt the US over the long run, while benefiting Germany (surprisingly) and China. Germans, who had earlier been pretty downbeat about their economic future have watched the euro strengthen against the dollar, interest rates fall, and the stock market climb.
I was supposing Chernov was being held because he was queer:
here’s a similar case:
"Reading this interview with Maksim Borisov, a gay Russian dissident who sought asylum in the US last year only for ICE to arrest and detain him in February. He’s currently held in Eloy Detention Center in Arizona where he says “trans people… just disappear.” LINK

"Deporting a gay man to Russia is beyond horrific, and yet this admin is happy to do it. And the verbal abuse he describes is abhorrent; and not new. Guards at detention centers, jails, and prisons get away with crap like this all the time. It’s appalling, it’s not new under Trump, just worse now.

I think Russia’s “decisive” defeat will be political. The Russian economy continues to falter, and people who do not work for the military-industrial complex aren’t seeing any economic benefits from ongoing war. The number of Russian men aged 20-40 has declined by 5% over the past four years, due mainly to the war and emigration. This demographic includes the profound slump in births in 1994-1997 due to the shocks of the USSR collapse. Moreover, nobody, not even the Chinese, are willing to invest in Putin at this point. I think it ends badly for him, and probably within the next 12 months. Once Putin is gone, Russia can blame him for the loss and will gladly agree to reasonable terms to end the war. Belarus president Lukashenko, a Putin appendage, is already preparing to survive the transition.
Peter Baker:
Ticket sales and subscription revenue at the Kennedy Center have fallen sharply since Trump made himself chairman. Single-ticket sales were down roughly 50%. Subscriptions revenue down 82% for theater and 57% for dance.
It appears to be yes they are. Why is not so clear. Greed, grifting, racism, fascism, hero worshiping (which defies any kind of reason unless Putin is the hero which is ludicrous), religious fanaticism for the 2nd coming (also defies any kind of reason), sure, but there’s something else, failed, broken psychopaths somehow getting to be in charge, Lord of the Flies like I guess.
ICE is in that place, as far as I’m concerned, where they need to be dissolved and replaced with a new agency responsible in this case for immigration enforcement, and without automatic right of rehire for current employees. It’s truth-and-reconciliation time, like in Northern Ireland in 1998 or something like that.
Once upon a time before Citizens United and Newt Gingrich we had a Congress filled with elected officials who were trying to get ahead on committees. They would become experts in some field or fields and would be looked up to by other members of Congress and their constituencies. People back home used to get great constituent services and congressmembers spent a lot of time in thier home districts. That all started changing when Gingrich changed the speakership. It really got roaring when television ads became the only way someone could grab enough support to be elected. Before that the party could help an elected official organize and gain recognition. One thing that might help American democracy is to increase the number of congressmembers to 750 or some similar number. It is hard to get elected if you have to raise money to buy ads for a 2,000,000 strong district.
So, like, ICE and DOJ is afraid this person might flee to Canada if they don’t detain them in the US indefinitely? Seems like a big waste of US tax money to house someone who does not pose a threat to anyone in the US.
When criminal becomes political, political becomes religion, and religion becomes criminal, things get all messed up.
