What if the vast majority of American physicians and public health professionals stood up right now and signed on that they refused to use the vaccine unless the appropriate testing protocols have shown the vaccine to safe and effective? Would they do that? And would that be enough to throw some cold water on the plan to rush this through?

So Trump announced that there will be a vaccine, for sure, before the end of the year. Odds in Vegas that there won’t be a vaccine by the end of the year immediately shot through the roof.
Vegas watchers are keen to find out what happens to the odds that the sun won’t come up tomorrow after Trump says it will.

OT but it’s Friday. Melania is as much a Trumper as anyone else in the family. Her clothing choices are intentional. The I don’t care jacket, and Castro-esque oufit and green screen dress draws the attention she wants. She likes to own the libs, she hates Ivanka, and in her words knows who she married. All the hand swats are for the camera. She looks out for herself and Barron. Melania Trump is not a sympathetic person. She is one of them.

It’s not rocket science to predict Trump will, no later than early October, lie and claim a vaccine is ready for use. The question is whether anyone outside of his idiot cult will believe him.
When you are known as a compulsive liar and your lackeys are similarly labeled, what is said is instantly ignored or derided.

It’s weird how the media keeps treating this as a political story. Trump’s actions and inactions have the clear effect of bringing about deaths, by the tens of thousands. It’s as if he was the fire chief and denied that the building was on fire. We can hear the screams, and see the people leaping to their deaths out the window. And the media reports on how the fire chief thinks this will be effective public relations.

Giving Ivanka the vaccine on TV may not be the panacea you think…it’s rare for a vaccine to cause a dramatic reaction, and even more rare that it’s deadly. I had a reaction to the flu shot a couple years ago, and went on my merry way for a couple hours until it kicked in. So, she’s not going to keep over dead after taking it, and she’s healthy enough that she can probably get through whatever reaction they cover up.
It’s also not enough to get doctors on TV saying it’s bad, because Trump will just get his own doctors to say it’s good…there are enough doctors who have drunk the kool aid who will do it, and it won’t matter that none of them are epidemiologists or vaccine researchers.
If, or actually when, Trump declares “We made avaccine!!!” in late October, the correct response is to ask for the supporting research that shows it is not harmful, that it is effective, and that it passed through the proper protocols and approvals at the CDC and HHS. None of those will be true, there just has not been long enough to test any vaccines with placebo comparison and compare their efficacy, and until that happens no vaccines should be approved. Push hard on the proper way to make sure a vaccine works, bring up the cases in the past where it was rushed and people died, and people will get the message that this is a political stunt and will not actually save any lives.
It actually could hurt him badly to promote a vaccine that isn’t ready, simply because it will feed into the clear notion that he’s using the presidency for his own ends. Driving that home by showing the process was skipped and we can’t know if it works or is safe is the far better way to make sure it does hurt him.

Nobody who isn’t socially responsible already is going to use these tests, and even among the (relatively) responsible, all they’ll do is promote people walking around without masks and not observing social distancing.
I have no doubt these tests will prove a useful tool for some purposes. I think it would be marvelous for parents to be able to test their children before they send them to school. But I don’t think they’re the panacea Mina presents them as. I swear, he’s everywhere promoting them. I’m generally not much on conspiracy theories, but I’ve seen Mina hawking these tests so much in the past couple of weeks, I’ve begun to wonder if he has some vested interest.
In one article in the Atlantic, he was quoted as saying these test could help us beat the virus in three weeks. He said if they were universally available, we’d have no virus in three weeks. Poof. WTF?
So I take his ideas with a grain of salt. No matter what, even if everybody gets these tests and spits on their strips every day, we still have to wear masks and social distance.
