‘This Is A Sh*tshow’: Texts Show Trump’s GOP Allies Growing Disillusioned With Election Steal Crusade

Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) and Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) were enthusiastic devotees to then-President Donald Trump’s election steal attempt — until they slowly realized the whole thing was a giant bust, according to their texts with then-White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, obtained by CNN.

So Lee-Roy done finally caught on?

On the same day, Roy told Meadows, “We need ammo. We need fraud examples. We need it this weekend.”

Later Roy clarified - ‘I meant fraud examples by Democratic voters.’

Something about seeing the bigger picture perhaps? Like how each of them is younger than Trump and might want a chance at a more important office?

“We’re driving a stake in the heart of the federal republic.”

And you’ve done nothing - NOTHING - since to remove it.

Fuck. Every. One. Of. You.

“This is a sh*tshow,” Roy texted Meadows after the vote. “Fix this now.”

I think they call this awareness of guilt or something like that. They know what they are doing is wrong, but are incapable of doing the right thing. Sad.

Trump’s entire presidency.

“This is a sh*tshow,”

I who knows no one in power or influence knew Trump was a loser before he ever ran for President.
On his own he has fucked up everything he has touched and someone digs him out.
If I knew this how can anyone in WDC and the RNC not know this and ever back him?

Now, if only these disenchanted GOP folks would come out and say these things publicly…

I just want to give kudos to @ Cristina Cabrera for this excellent sentence:

Apparently realizing that Powell spouting unhinged conspiracy theories while then-Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani slowly melted next to her was something of a bad look for the cause

At heart, they’re opportunists and grifters, and they know “the base” is little more than rubes.

@zandru

Let’s publicly talk (a lot) about what’s in these texts:

About what went into them
About their intentions
About those they, themselves, spoke with

It’s texts, but Lee and Roy already said it.

The question is: will the American press (excluding Fox and Newsmax) go after them?

Bad people executing bad ideas badly. That was Trump’s term in a nutshell. Or grifters gaming government. That works too.

How can anyone in their right mind want to go back to the insanity and depravity of those four interminable years?

IMO, the youngers men and women know Trumpf is a loser…he is 75+ yrsold and his time is limited, they have long lives ahead of them, and they like the system that put them in office, iti is barely noticable, but even Ron Desantis is slowly changing his rhetoric…he will always be a small-mimded man, but the old guys are getting to him…they do not want to see their apple cart-upset.

Yes. And just to add here that Roy (not the sharpest tool in, even, the GOP’s shed) recognizes that the Electoral College is, for the foreseeable future, the only way Republicans are going to win the presidency. Keep yelling “Stop the Steal!” enough, and people will get the bright idea of going to accepting some fool idea like taking the popular vote to be representative of the Will of the People.

‘“This is a sh*tshow,” Roy texted Meadows after the vote. “Fix this now.”’ At least a couple of Republican legislators had some sense.

It appears that Meadows didn’t get the memo. He believed in the Kraken and Eastman’s balony.

Indeed, this is all not going to go well for Meadows and Eastman. If Eastman doesn’t lose his law license, then that would be a big surprise. I mean, Eastman was saying that some of his approaches were only a little illegal. An attorney saying this should simply give up his license, really.

Another issue is how someone like Trump can somehow enthrall people. I wonder if it’s less about Trump, and more about the people he could suck in. At least the ones who, otherwise, might not join in the bullshit.

Because it is/was in their own self interest to not know. They are all dirty to one extent or another.

I read that as a bragging point, not a point of caution.
