This Election Will Prove If Florida Is Still Winnable For Democrats

Trouble with democracy in a capitalist society is that it can be bought. Then we get ‘fascism’.

Fascism is when the sons of rich men grow up and need to find a way to exercise their feelings of pure monkey righteousness.

Pursue churches that openly politick and there will never be another GOP president.

Characterize migrants on the southern border as ‘Christians’ and the Protestants will lambast them as ‘Catholics’ and there will never be another GOP president.

Ensure a national public holiday on voting day and there will never be another GOP president.

We could go on here. Nitty gritty aside, we have the wealth of this nation in opposition to the people because they don’t want to be taxed.

I would love to see L’il Marco given his walking papers. We’ll see, November is still far away.

I share your feelings, except that they keep sending puppets (Rubio), fools (Gaetz, et.al), and first-degree charlatans (Scott) to Washington to pour sand in the gears of government.

Amen to that. One big part of the problem is the DNC not understanding how to reach the variety of Latino cultures there with effective messaging. GOP messaging is all over the Hispanic radio stations, pushing the “Dems are socialists” message that resonates with Cuban and now Venezuelan first and second generation immigrants.

The other reason it’s difficult to flip the state is the constant influx of retirees from conservative states. I don’t know how to counter that, but maybe nature will do it for us with climate change impacts; primarily hurricanes and rising insurance costs. Anyway, my wife and I will probably be moving back to South FL before November, so that’s two more Dem votes at least.

FL has 30 electoral college votes. That’s nothing to scoff at.

Even if you don’t win it, diverting everyone’s attention and forcing the GOP to spend to defend FLA ground they took for granted in the last cycle, makes it more possible to steal NC, AZ or Maine-2.

They can’t be ignored because we need wins in down ballot races and we get them by not ignoring those 2 states. We Democrats in Texas did well in down ballot races in 2018, 2020 and 2022.

Mine are a little higher since there’s been movement towards a “Dem revival” there well before this particular abortion decision:

A Tufts University analysis of Midterm turnout shows Florida had the ninth-worst participation rate among voters 18-29 among all U.S. states. Just 22.4% of Generation Z voters in Florida turned out at the polls in 2022 — a 9.1% decrease from two years prior.

That decline disproportionately hurt Democrats and progressive causes with which younger voters side more than most of their generational counterparts. Gen Z adults today account for 1 in 6 eligible voters, and 43% of them identify as liberal — the highest rate of any generation, according to a Public Religion Research Institute survey .

To reverse course, D’Onofrio said Florida Future Leaders will hire around half a dozen full-time college campus organizers at “key colleges and universities” across the state and supplement their efforts with other “statewide paid positions” dedicated to digital outreach.

More here, espeically about Dem-friendly issues:

I hope so. I used to love Florida but the ignorance is BIG down there.

voting rights and reproductive freedom

What if voting rights was the #1 campaign item on every Democrat’s race, every election?

Democrats favor the notion that the absolute best service should be given to voters, the owners of this country. Every person benefits from it, it lacks controversy (for non-fascists), and it’s the nation’s top priority. Without the right to vote, nothing else matters.

Is your polling place safe? We want it to be the safest place on earth. Is it clean? Does it take too long? Do you need water in line? Do you need time off, a free ride? Democrats will make our voting places and processes the best in the world.

Voting rights and reproductive freedom are a powerful combination. The only platform needed this cycle. Honorable Mention goes to voting rights and climate change but pick whatever’s top-of-mind in your district. Running in a military area? Voting rights and veteran’s health services.

The question is not what politicians promise to give us or get for us. The promise Democrats give is you will decide.

Dictatorship or Majority Rule.
For Majority Rule, vote the Democratic ticket.

For the left, Michigan and its abortion rights amendment is the anecdote to that troubling pattern.

Yes, but that’s mostly just antidotal evidence.

I think extreme wealth more often turns into a form of oligarchy rather than straight-up fascism. To be fascist, you usually need an unhealthy amount of nationalism combined with racial grievances.

Unfortunately, we have both in spades with Trump and the current Republican party.

Yup, Democrats flipping either Florida or Texas right now functionally ends the GOP as a party who can compete for the Presidency. But Biden winning Florida has the added benefit of embarrassing Trump in his home state, so I lean to wanting to see that one flip first this cycle.

There’s a reason the Bush family of CT and Maine sent their boys to be Governors of Florida and Texas. Electoral college windfall.

Yes I have. Having grown up in Florida and currently living there now, I am well aware that the FDP would have to IMPROVE to be considered pathetically incompetent! From what I have been reading Nikki Fried is working hard to change this.

I know - I was there. And I think with the Republican Civil War going on that Democrats can take advantage of this.

You’ll not get Maine-2.
