These Are The Trump-Desired Quid Pro Quos State’s Ukraine Officials Were Pushing | Talking Points Memo

yeah, sondlands Sep 19 5:19am text saying there was no quid pro quo sounds like he got word of the whistler blowers complaint and was a late attempt at providing presidential deniability to the preceding months of quid pro quo discussion.

If it weren’t for Donald Trump, no one would be interested in religion. I mean, government.

It certainly seems to me that what Trump admitted publicly within 24 hours of the story breaking was sufficient to impeach – no need for him to have frozen the funds and no need for them to have covered up the phone call. The President simply cannot ask another world leader to investigate a political opponent. Full stop.

But this is TrumpWorld now! And because a lot of people in his camp don’t seem to notice machine-gun fire, I am grateful the grenades keep on coming.

Yep, can’t wait for Sondland’s testimony under oath.

I’d love to be a fly on the wall where he is now. Lots and lots of phone calls. Lots and lots of attorneys. Remember, these people don’t look for qualified legal help as much as they look for well connected legal help. So Guliani hired Dowd. So we’ll be seeing a bevy of the high priced legal muscle coming to the fore.

This is critical (and good job to TPM for laying it out well), as this is the background behind the July 25th call. The Ukrainians would have understood all of this, so it fills out what Zelensky was saying, and his understanding of what Trump was saying. It also makes it clear that this wasn’t just Trump and Giuliani spouting off, there was a real push behind this, with several government officials trying to make this happen.

There’s just no denying this record, which means the Republicans will try to ignore it as hard as they can…and it also makes clear why Trump today declared that there will be no cooperation with the House investigations, as just the little bit that has already happened has already basically made the case for impeachment. The House must put the individuals in the texts into a public hearing and get them to state what was going on, so that Americans can see the entire thing for what it really is.

Trump solicited aid. There’s no need for a quid pro quo.

Lucky for Trump, he’s quite fluent in Latin.

Bitchin’!

Five hours also elapsed between Taylor mentioning the quid pro quo they clearly had discussed via phone conversation earlier and Sondland replying. I imagine he probably needed some time to consult with a few people about how to address this and also change his pants.

The straw that launched a thousand Schiffs? Yeah, bad huh?

I love the fact that McConnell and other Republicans note the aid was released eventually as if that absolved the administration. It wasn’t released until the bribery was uncovered. It’s like killing someone to steal their money and then putting the money back when you are caught red-handed.

Trump claims that he is trying “root out corruption.” All he needs to do is look in the mirror.

Fuck your pro and fuck your quo - all we need is the quid, and we have a mountain of it and Trump is wheelbarrowing more of it to the steaming pile every single day.
